Defoam Q, how would you precede?

I just got an 04 RN as a project for me over winter and it's my first ski.

I have the hull completely stripped now and I just removed all the old hydroturf, and it has blowsion footholds installed too.

When pulling the turf, I noticed that whoever did the footholds did a crappy job and I know that water has/will get behind them and soak the foam.

Here is the question: the ski hasn't been in the water for about 2 years so the foam is dry behind the footholds but i know water has been in there. Since I'm here should I just cut the tray and defoam? or since it's dry now, just redo the foot holds and leave it at that?

I guess there could be water at the bottom, only way to know is to cut into it.

But two years out of the water I figured it would have dried or evaporated. Idk I guess I'll just open it up.

You can check it for water by drilling a small hole in the back at the low point of the chine. The hole is easily patched with epoxy mixed with a filler.

Whether or not you replace the foam depends on your time, budget, etc. If you plan on replacing the foam, do not drill the inspection holes needlessly. If you are taking the time and expense to turf, you should just bite the bullet and repair it.

I took everyone advice and cut the tray. Super annoying job but I got all the foam out. Now I just need to pressure wash it out, and seal all the openings.

My foam had water but by no means soaked

Nice work. Looks like a Harbor Freight electric recip saw there. They work pretty well for 10 bucks.

Yeah it's the HF dremel, I cut the whole tray with it and the right bit.

I'm now in the process of widening the tray and reinforcing the sides.

So much reading to learn how to do fiberglass properly.
