Super Jet Defoaming and weight savings

My seven-year-old son is just getting into riding standups and have an old 96 RN I am going to fix up. I’ve always known it’s been waterlogged but been too busy to bust in to the fiberglass and fix it. this forum has plenty of “how to’s” on the whole process so no issue there. My question is how much weight do you save by defoaming a waterlogged superjet? I plan on running blaster style drain plugs so I can always check on it. Here is some pics of that process. When I cut the holes plenty of sand seashells and water came out : ), which leads me to believe the leak is coming from the outside or the prior owner sank it at some point. I cut away as much foam as I could just to get by until I go for the full job.

Forgot to mentioned it smelled like a mold factory in there as well so my guess is I have a pretty substantial amount of wet foam.

A gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs.So if you multiply that by how much water your ski is actually holding under the tray,it can add up quickly.Forgot how many gallons a RN will hold?
Maybe someone else can chime in?

I defoamed a tiny Rickter Ninja x that had a waterlogged tray (one year old ski) and I scraped 14 pounds of waterlogged foam out,,, and that’s after the ski hung inverted for 3 months with drain holes drilled in the back that had literally dripped for weeks. Tray is 1/2 the size of a SuperJet.

Make sure you seal up the two factory holes in the bulkhead, reseal all hull inserts and both ends of the waterlines and shaft tube.

Thanks all for the feed back and tips. I think I will defoam and see if I can weight what I remove. Hopefully the new 2021 SJ has a better draining/sealing/floatation system. I think I only had 1/2 gallon drain out, so the rest is in the foam.

wow! Thanks for the confirmation. I am shocked as well. That is a lot of weight!

yup, I think I am going with the HD closed cell foam. I’m going to build a channel at the bottom of the chines with drains out the back so any water intrusion does not sit. Only thing I am wavering on is going wide tray or not.

I sucked all the water out with a vacuum pump and sealed the leaks. Still weighs 327 fifteen years later.

Did you cut an inlet hole to prevent the tray from collapsing?

Or did running the vacuum pump (air conditioning vacuum by chance?) suck air from cracks which let water in?

Did you glass up any cracks? Where was it leaking water in?

SN SJ or RN SJ?

It was a S/N I drilled several 1/16 holes and used an airbrush compressor. Whoever assembled the hull wasn't too good with the glue gun. After a week I was satisfied and sealed all the hissing joints., mainly around the bulkhead.
