I cut footholds area, front of the gunwhales, and front of the tray. Remember that you'll have to put it back together.

would cutting the whole tray out be safe? like after you put it back in and everything?

That's what I did to my square nose because it was cracked from the front to the back. Just glass it back in there with some fiber mat, and it will be fine. I used one layer of mat and 3 layers of cloth. Might have been too much but it has held up fine. The foam adds the most support.

Alright I have a question that goes along the same lines as the one asked. I am in the same stage I received my footholds and I will be defoaming the ski. The question is how do you put it all back together. I realize if I cut the holes for the footholds and one in the bottom and two more on the side I would have to use 5200 to put them back together but what keeps them from falling in or out before foaming. I would think that I would put it all back together then foam to get the most foam and solid structure correct? How would I go about doing so with cutting almost the whole tray out? Sorry if I jacked your thread but I figured our questions were similar.

I think I would probably foam the panel areas, smooth it out like I want, and then glass not 5200 the panel in. Footholds you dont need nothing more then ducttape. You could also epoxy small pieces of wood on the inside that stick out and catch the panel, very small, just to hold it in place. Hard to describe but hopefully you get the point.

If anyone has a better way share it because while I probably am not doing that in my foothold install, I would like to know as well!

it's eassier/cleaner to defoam with a prybar. don't glass the old panels back in, just put 4 layers of biax over top of the areas where you cut out the tray after you haver shaved down the foam.

I used some small chunks of the old foam to hold the bottom in place while I glassed it back in there. After the glass dried I just poured some foam in through a hole.

I would think it would be easiest to hold the panels back in place with a board or something using screws then foam, clean up excess, glass....

Heres a drawing to get the idea.
