Update:

We pulled the stock airbox and replaced it with a cold air package including an intake pipe and K&N air filter. I wanted to leave the panty hose off of it, but Rodney veto'd that.
Also, is a oil breather catch can and mini K&N. A Riva mount cleans the bilge up nicely for the electronics.

We also performed a ribbon delete on the engine's intake. Yamaha has a wad of tightly coiled sheet metal in the intake, right after the throttle body. The idea is to prevent water ingestion and to quiet the decible level. It's quite restrictive. I didn't grab any pics of it. It's a bit involved to remove it.

Rodney swapped out the Riva ride plate for a ProWatercraft plate.

Lastly, we took an additional 2" out of the carbon pole tubes.

This ski is really coming along! I rode it a couple times with these latest mods and the changes are all resulting in a killer running ski.

Next mods will be the latest gen ProWatercraft rear sponsons and exhaust restrictor plate removal.

Total hours on the clock to date: 26.

Nice. Perfect ski for what I want it for - wake in a busy channel with a longgg no wake. when the 2T guys wont even bother riding on the weekends when it's the most busy b/c of the long asss no wake, I stay out there and w/ easy re-fuel at any fuel dock. Cant do that w my flatwater ski.

I've done all that except ecu, prop, shortening pole more and the ribbon delete and footholds.. all to come. Any more detail on the process of the ribbon delete?

I should have taken some pics of the ribbon delete. It's more involved than the restrictor delete on the exhaust side. You are basically coring the ribbon assembly out of the intake with a hole saw. The holesaw and guide are included in the Riva kit. Make sure you have the intake manifold secured tightly in a large vice and take small, shallow cuts. Use cutting oil. It's better to have a spare set of eyes and hands on this part of it. Once the ribbon is cut free, take a dremel and flapper wheel to clean up the plastic so that the supplied bore insert goes in smoothly.

As far as the restrictor plate removal goes on the exhaust...that's a pretty straightforward procedure. The manifold comes off easily, and then you simply unbolt the 3 bolts and off comes the restrictor plate. The gasket is 2 piece metal and you won't need to replace it with a new one. The whole operation should take less than an hour.

The decibel increase is noticeable out of the water. It sounds healthy! On the water, once water gets in the exhaust and motor, the decibel level increase is minimal. We noticed a slight increase in the mid throttle range. It's a very small gain, but still noticeable. It's not as much of a gain as the ribbon delete, but, it all adds up!

Any more updates on the build or you guys happy with where it’s at. Just picked up my new one yesterday and anxious to start ordering parts and wrenching. Any things to watch for on break in, or just follow manual?

Let's see... Rodney yanked the puny rear Riva sponsons and replaced them with ProWatercraft's new sponsons. They are considerably longer and deeper. The rear portion where it wraps around the rear of they tray gets filled and smoothed out. PWC claims a 2-3 mph gain just from bolting these on. He also swapped out the Watercross of Texas intake grate for a Billet Kommander grate. Fit and finish is very nice. These 2 mods alone made for far less aggressive engine induced braking when you let off on the gas. The WCOT grate is very aggressive and probably better suited for running bouys or rough water.

Rodney also sent his ECU back to RIVA for the next stage tune. He'll have to run race gas now. But, this ski just sips fuel... so it won't be an issue.

In a drag race with my MonsterSX we are now dead even., whereas before I smashed him.

Good thread! Curious... How come you send the ECU to Riva for a re tune instead of using the MaptunerX with the different download maps?

Or is that what you're using, but just having Riva load it for you?

Are these the new prowatercraft sponsons here?

I wanted Rodney to buy the Maptuner so that we could write our own curves. He felt that he was only going to need a pump gas tune and that would suffice. I knew he would eventually want to throw some more pepper on the motor. Ohh well, I have other plans to spend his $$. ***cough...Turbo...cough***.

Yes, those are the ProWatercraft sponsons you want.

You would also need to buy the MaptunerX map edit license.

Is kommander the only one that does the turbo kit? Looked it up and wow it almost costs as much as the whole ski, $8500? How unreliable does it make it?

Over the past year Steve and I have been having fun messing around with this 4 stroke SJ. This set up seems pretty good and I might leave it as is for now. Here's what we got... Riva 93 octane 9000 rpm agr flash, Solas 12/17 prop. Riva exhaust pipe, air intake system, ribbon delete. Exhaust restrictor plate removed. Riva OTP steering system and bars, pole spring, longer steering cable. Macsboost carbon poles. Prowatercraft rear sponsons and Prowatercraft ride plate. Kommander intake grate. Jettrim mats.

I was using the WCOT intake grate for awhile but I prefer the Kommander Intake. Don't get me wrong, the WCOT is an awesome grate. It really sucks the ski to the water which makes it much more stable at higher speeds, it turns great with little cavitation. But for me I didn't like the excessive braking and the loss of a couple mph on top end.
I can see why racers would really like the WCOT or if you ride in choppy water a lot, but I ride mostly flat water and for my 65 yr old geezer ass I hated the harsh braking.

This is just what Steve and I came up with, this doesn't mean this will work for everybody out there. But we're having fun seeing what the 4 stroke can do!

Engine sounds strong and it pulls hard.

But dang Rodney, will it make right-hand turns? ;)

My left knee hurts just watching you load your left knee the whole time :D
Yeah I'm really liking this 1050 4 stroke motor!

What are right hand turns lol? Actually after practicing these left turns I turn around and do rights.

Yeah I'm wearing knee compression sleeves along with Motrin and Tylenol these days.
