Dirtyoz's Halfa$$ed FX-1 Build

A dremel tool with the little barrel sander bit worked good for beveling the padding, and the reinforced cutoff wheel for cutting glass and grinding out the foam. Better have the shop-vac ready though.

FX-1's trays are narrow as heck, I hope I didnt pad too much. Maybe I should just use more Ibuprofen instead.

Man, this stuff is sticky. Plastic mallet is great for this part.

Didnt reinforce the bond line or motor mounts, this is the halfassed part. Did replace the broken h-pole mount and reinforce mount area and hood with E-glass though.

lol I didn't see the whole role of b stock in the photo. I need to get a roll for my SX.

Was that b stock or just the gray diamond HT?

Since the engine was full of water, the crank went south on me. So I scored a Hotrods crank for cost plus shipping:brap:
Wrist pins were mediocre at best, so a set of coated pistons 1mm over and pins were in order.
This motor had only a couple hrs on it after the previous owner did an SBT exchange, so the cyllinders were pristine after a light hone.
I decided to put an MSD enhancer and Protec pump gas head on just because.
Speaking of which: What is the range of the rev limit on these 650/701 models??
I havent messed with the adjuster yet, is there a known point on these MSD's??

Took her out for the first run last night. The damn thing goes like a scalded dog.
I got two issues that need dealing with.
Its alot louder than I wanted or anticipated. Makes me wonder if the waterbox has been gutted. I am using single line cooling with a restricted pisser coming off one side of the head, and the other off the head goes through the head pipe, then Tees to another restricted pisser and on to the stinger/waterbox.
2nd issue is a bit of vibration, I didnt take much time with alignment of engine and output shaft. But that is my duty this morning.
I also need to shim down the rear of the plate a little. I plan to fab my own slightly more extended one out of E-glass soon.

Overall, I am very happy. It has an 18/23 Skat which helps with the cavitation issue, but I will consider the Bonzai pump mod or just do it myself.
Well, time to start wrenchin some more...........Oz

Well, been riding her all summer. I've been trading back and fourth between the FX-1 and my mod SN SJ 701. My Bonzai 144 pump should be here on Monday. So we'll see how that works out. I will see how much I can bore out the 122 pump shoe.
If I end up using a 144 shoe, what is the best one to use, OEM, blowsion etc...

This winter I will tackle modding the intake tract so there is bottle neck there.
