Other DJ deadmau5 jetski clinic the untold story

It all started when the management company of America's #1 DJ third year in a row, deadmau5, contacted me to organize a jetski day for their client, because he is a huge jetski fan and a rider, as well.

So, I did, and this past Sunday, deadmau5 and I had a blast. I will prepare a full report about that day, but now I'd like to take you back 48h prior to it.

Long story short, I ride a lot, so when my ski wouldn't start on Thursday I was not surprised. I took it to Brian from Thrust and he discovered and promptly fixed several issues. (Yes, I ride as hard as I can all the time, and it's no one's fault that it had so many issues). But, it still wouldn't start, so Brian realizes that he fixed all the outside-of-motor issues, so it was time to open it up. Aha! The pins on the flywheel (forgive me if I'm not using exact technical terms) broke. Time for a new flywheel. Fixed. Once the ski wouldn't start still (this is now 5 hours after I brought it), it was time to go home, and time to start worrying.

Brian started on it early AM and it became apparent he had to rebuild the motor ! To make matters worse, the sealant (forgive my ignorance what it's for) takes 24h to cure, which would mean no one could water-test til Sunday morning, the deadmau5 day! Brian worked on it and had me pick it up on Saturday night. It was too risky to water-test it as there was a chance the sealant hadn't cured yet. Brian sent me home with the ski and said to go as early in the morning as possible and water test. If there was anything wrong, he'd come down and fix it before deadmau5 shows up!

Needless to say, I didn't sleep too well that night!

Woke up early, went straight to the water. First crank, the ski woke up right away! Great sign! As per Brian's instructions I put it in the water and for 5 min just cruised around, so everything would get lubed up properly. What a long 5 minutes! Everything felt fine, but I couldn't be sure I was in the clear until I could actually open up the throttle.

Five minutes were up, and I made my first wake. Looking good. Turn around, and decide it's a back flip time. Squeeze the throttle all the way and ....

.... VROOOOOOM, the ski takes of beautifully! A perfect flip, everything feels perfect, just like 4 days ago! Phew! I mean, PHEW!

I can't explain to you how much easier it was to ride that day with deadmau5 when I knew the ski was perfect.

To tell you that Brian saved the day is an understatement. To fix so many issues + rebuild the motor on a short notice and no room for error, without water testing and have it run perfectly on the first attempt, I have never experienced before.

Those who met me know that I always worry about my ski because I can't fix anything and I don't have a mechanical sponsor. This Sunday, with Thrust I finally felt I had someone in my corner! If Brian hadn't dropped everything (including his wife, I was a witness to that!) and worked Friday and Saturday on it, and made it perfect on the first attempt I'd have to show up on Sunday and apologize to the management company and deadmau5 himself that I don't have a working ski. Can you imagine this embarrassment?!?! OMG.

You need to go read some tutorials and tear a motor down it sounds like! Doesn't seem to mix, stand-up rider but not knowing how to tear their ski down ;)

Oh, I definitely agree and I am getting better at being able to detect and fix small things.

However, to be able to rebuild the motor (and fix several other issues) without water testing, and deliver a perfect ski, well.... sorry to tell you, but I only had that quality shown to me once, this past weekend, hence this post.

I have no false ideas that I will ever be able to do such a good job as Brian, who's been doing this for years and years, every day!

thats freaking awesome one day id love to meet him... i was down in miami this past weekend for ultra boy was it amazing but riding with deadmau5 would sure make it a hell of alot better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For all of you deadmau5 fans, you have another reason to like him -- he is a true jetski fan. He wants to be good at it and he is willing to learn.
