Some of you guys knock riding alone which is fine we all are aloud to have are own opinion. But think about this just for example even if you are riding with someone and you hit your head knock yourself and suck in water unless your riding partner is trained in emegency first aid in the water your done for anyway even if your buddy or a passing by boat gets your head out of the water your lungs are still full of water and you STILL are drowning. With that said I ride alone on a small long and narrow lake.

I wish your poll choices were less loaded...

I go out alone plenty...flat or 3 feet or less inside fairport harbor...protected by a break wall and I'm a few hundred feet away from launch at most. Also fairly crowded but not this late in the season.

Crazy new devices called helmets!

I've ridden alone a couple times in flat water. I don't venture off far from shore in case something happens as other said.

I don't get, nor can I get extreme on flat water so it's not something I really worry about safely wise. My distance from shore is more or less factoring how long I'm going to swim if something happens to the machine. Not because it's that big of a deal, i'd just spend less time swimming if at all possible. Of course, all this assumes your using proper safety equipment, helmet, life vest, and ignition lanyard.

Surf on the other hand. I wouldn't consider going out by myself. At least in oceanside. But, thankfully enough I have a good group of guys I ride with that are dependable, so i've never been put in a situation where i've had to debate going out by myself or not.

Out of the 20+ years I've ridden, I'm guessing the last 15 or so have been by myself because once my friends with ski's got married their backbones fell out of their body's and they got rid of their Jet Ski's (and motorcycles, and snowmobiles, and ATV's, and sports cars, etc) per their wives orders.

I ride exclusively on a major river that's lined with houses plus I always have my cell phone with me (kept in 2 waterproof pouches). I have to agree with a 'alberta guy', most people you ride with wouldn't have the training to be able to save you from dying. On top of that if you died the person(s) who tried to save you will then live with the memory and/or regret of not having been able to prevent your death because they lacked the knowledge to do so. I say that because in my case only one of the people I ever road with was an actual EMT and had the knowledge to effectively save a life.

The only time I ride alone is at my private pond that was shown in "Toms house" thread posted by Joe Eckert. Too many thing can go wrong in a large body of water. I never go out in surf until my buddies are unloaded at the launch. Guess I'm getting a little older and wiser:)

I will ride alone around my dock occasionally. I wear a helmet and cga vest. If somehow they fail and I'm knocked unconscious and die, I will die quick and happy. There are plenty of worse ways to die.

I rode alone when I first started skiing, now that I think back on the hairy situations I got into, it wasn't smart.

IMO, doesn't matter what the story is, riding alone is dangerous, the smart thing to do is go out with someone else, your chances of survival are higher with a riding buddy.

I have gone out alone, its just kinda boring. This is on flatwater i would never go out in surf alone, heck before i ride we have a group meeting making up hand signals in case of emergency.

I ride alone a lot too. I just try to take it easy and go over the ski before I go out. I am not doing any barrel rolls or crazy back flip stuff, just rec riding hitting occasional wave due to low boat traffic.
I also keep tools in the machine and an extra set of plugs. My biggest worry always seems to be fuel so I added the extra fuel tank. Sometimes the only option I have is to ride alone, so I just go. I do the same in the winter on my dirt bike, snowmobile. and mini bike. Although winter can get pretty hairy at times depending on how thick the ice is and how deep the snow is. If you ride solo I would recommend taking it easy, bring tools, and check your machine over before going out. I do agree it is always better to be out with someone else and it is a lot more fun, but sometimes that option isn't available.

If I ride alone the ride turns into more of a Sunday night cruise... I will venture out a little bit but that's only because I'm on a cruise and not really trying any stupidness... As it gets colder here the boats start to disappear, as they do at most lakes, and other than the wind gust the lake stays slick and glossy... So with out some hopped up am hull with bb I'm really only limited to HUD tricks, carving and whatever I can come up with off my own setup wake. I always wear a helmet when riding alone... But like I said I mainly cruise when alone... Try and leave it to a mechanical failure to get me I trouble... Nothing safety wise... Luckily the ski runs too notch so no worries with the mechanical...like others have said tho, I can't always did someone to ride with so when I can't... I just throw the ski jn the back of the truck and go for a cruise...

I think if you're just cruising around, not doing any 'cool tricks' etc... you can ride alone. But, I don't think that applies to the vast majority of X members.

I used to ride alone, but I don't any more really. I defintely think twice before chasing a big cruiser and throwing anything without some friends near by. Less worried about dying, more worried about flooding the ski or running out of gas.

Kind of a side note... my limiting rope is also my tow rope, using the Jet Maniac hooks. Last time I ran out of gas, I was in the middle of the lake. I was probably a 1/2 mile from our spot. I hooked the rope to the front of my ski, and pulled it while swimming instead of pushing it, and it seemed like I was making a lot more forward progress.

Luckily there is a spot here right by the bridge where when the wind picks up it produces pretty good waves, the ramp is right at the end of the bridge so I feel reasonably safe and not too far if I have to swim it in.

You win Buddy!.....it's all about common sense.
It has nothing to do with what people ride or the size of their Cojones.
