Does anyone ride the Pacific City side of Kiwanda (Oregon)? I've ridden the Tierra Del Mar side to the North a few times, but would like to try the other. I'm not sure if it's frowned upon by the non-motorized community over there, since it is more prevalent.

if you do, make sure you go waaaay down the beach. we went there after surfslam and rode right next to the cliffs and.... there was almost a brawl. one rider got punched in the head. girls were crying.... it wasnt good.

i would ask the locals really because we are only there for a week so.

We've ridden it before. It was last spring when the surf was pretty big and nasty but still cleaner than Tierra. The surfers weren't out so we figured what the heck why not. Sure enough the cops were called but they were really cool about it. We were told that we were there first and we weren't causing any problems so have fun. It's definitely frowned upon by the surf crowd and we wouldn't have even considered putting in if we had seen any in the water but if it's clear I don't see why not. I'd hate to be the one to ruin for anyone else so just be respectful whatever you do. It was a blast and a ton of people came out to see what was going on since skis are rarely seen riding there in front of the pelican pub.

That's kinda what I was hoping to hear. I didn't see anyone in the water further to the South away from the Cape. Everyone surfs right in front of the Pelican Pub. So we planned on being a 1/2 mile away anyway. I just want a spot I can cart the skis to and from the house. Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully, some other riders can post their thoughts too.

Don’t do it. Definitely don’t do it. Please refrain from the temptation to ride at the pelican it causes lots of local resentment and problems. I know it is incredibly alluring, partially because it is a forbidden fruit of sorts. Tierra is a perfectly fine place to ride, or do like a lot of us do is truck up and take your party way south down the beach to the mouth of the Nestuca river. Thank You for your cooperation in this matter.

This. I've been tempted more than once, but ultimately it's just not worth pissing the locals off over it. The whole town is incredibly friendly to us, year after year.
Let's keep the noisy smoke makers out of their sight. Tierra doesn't have perfect surf, but it does have isolation and peace.

Thanks all. Looks like we'll stick to Tierra, which I'm happy with. We've always gone there in September and the swells always come in as huge long sets. Is there a better time of year to show up when there are more breaks to funnel through, say August? I'd like to get some novice friends out there if it is ever more calm.

Those that ride the Nestucca mouth of the river, do you just ride the river down to it? Pics? Vid? I've ridden the Sand Lake mouth and have some vid of it.

You drive on the beach right past the bridge over the Nestucca (go straight instead of turning right). Once you're over the hump, go south towards the mouth. 4wd highly recommended and it can get dicey at high tide.

Interesting. Odd that you can drive on the beach, but a ski is an annoyance to some. I assumed it was like the North end of the Tierra beach and no vehicles were allowed before October, because of the housing.

Governor Oswald West long ago declared our beaches public highways to stop commercial development. Its a great thing.

If you want really good waves go to Tierra and drive North past the sign if its the time of year they allow it and go all the way towards cape lookout i believe it is. And take along hoagies if possible.
