Super Jet Does stock nose foam on rn stop the ski from sinking?

It's over a cubic foot of volume that water can't displace when it sinks. I will not run without it.

The thing about the nose foam is that it can't get waterlogged. Does it help? Yes. Will a ski float without it? Yes, as long as the rear foam is not waterlogged. Will a ski float without it once you've installed a scupper and lost all that foam from the scupper tube? Just barely.

If you have a choice, I can't understand why you would run without it.

Thats what mine looked like when I sank it in the surf. I had the front foam in and a full tank of gas. It was scary! I thought I was going to lose by baby. But luckily my buddies saved her. Now getting towed back was a different story...she got ruffed up a little.

no it dont do squat imo.

you need to do an experiment....

take your hood and a pool noodle......throw the hood into a pool with as little as a 12" piece of foam it should float it......

I ran for years without nosefoam, and had a couple of near losses aka sunk and bouncing off the bottom and will never be without it again........

cut up a big ol chunk of couch foam for my rickter and made it fit as best as could....

I cannot for the life of me imagine why someone wouldnt want floatation in their BOAT?

I did nose foam in my matrix as well. Bobby assured me I wouldn't need it but it was too simple to not do. Litterally it took maybe 5 minutes to shape the RN foam block to fit.

Simple piece of mind...priceless

My ski sank at the lake once. I had just installed footholds so I know my foam was not waterlogged (there was dampness on one side, but only a little bit). I had front nose foam in, and I could only see about 3 inches of the back of my ski bobbing up and down. Stock pole was even installed.

Fast forward 3 years later where I'm pretty sure I've got wet foam, I can't even imagine what it would look like if I sank it now.

If that were a 750 SXI with no foam in nose it would be resting on the bottom of the lake or ocean.

My SF...will it sink or float

I realise This thread is way old, but I too need some peace of mind.

I recall somewhere that you also owned a SF.....did you ever submerge it, and did it actually float....I have sunk way too much money into my SF just to lose it sunk in the surf. Do you know of any SF owners who can say it floats ok, if sunk.

I have put the nose foam in (could only get about half the SN volume, but I also have an Xmetal pole, ....any more suggestions will really help

tks a lot

I run an Canoe airbag in my XFS - it's a bit like a tube (see pic) - you slip it round the front of the water box or PFP chamber and inflate via the one way valve, it's expands into all the available space and provide stacks of buoyancy - I've only had to top it up one this season and it come with a 12" tube and one way for easy inflation in situ. They only run like $20 and made of really hard wearing canvass.

You quoted me so I guess this question was directed towards me? :dunno:

I do not own a Superfreak and honestly, haven't sunk either of my Matrix's. ScottS sunk his though and even without nosefoam, it still floated about the same as the above Superjet pics. The Matrix is built similarly to the Superfreak in the regard that it relies on trapped air in the lower half of the hull and foam in the upper half for buoyancy. That displaced air space is normally enough to float a ski at or slightly above the surface and any additional foam is just extra insurance.

I won't say that the nose foam will be the difference between losing your ski but it certainly will not hurt. Anything you can do to increase your overall buoyancy is going to make a difference. It's cheap protection with little to no downside. Bottom line, If it makes you sleep better, just do it.

Tanner made a point above about the nose of his ski getting drug along the bottom and scuffed up during one of his many rescues. I can't help but wonder if nose foam floats the ski a little more horizontal and helps to avoid this at all? I believe I have asked this before and the answer was once again, not enough to say so.

Every little bit helps. There is zero excuse for not running as much flotation as possible. I cut and shaped nose foam for my SF out extruded polystyrene. I also put a pool noodle inside the bilge.
