Does the Riva girdled head clear the stock F/A?

I am geting my new B-Pipe this Friday and will be installing my Riva Girdled head at that time. This is on a '08 SJ and I was wondering a few things so I dont run into any issues that would keep me from ridding this weekend.

I know on the ADA head that some minor trimming of the stock flame arrestor will allow fitment over the head, what about this Riva girdled head? It is so rectangular that it seems like it would cause clearance issues. Does anybody have firsthand experience with this head?

Also in the Factory Pipe instructions they say to remove the fuel tank and battery for the install, is this really necessary? Seems like it would be reather easy without removal, maybe because of the new SJ being wider up front?

Am I supposed to be running the BR8ES plugs with this head?

Thanks for the assistance...

i think the riva head reguires more cutting of the flame arrestor than the ada.

yes, pull the tank and battery(you need to pull the battery to get the tank out)

Br8es plugs,

the only thing that may keep you from riding is the tamper caps on your adjustment screws on the carbs

It almost seems like the cast base of the F/A would be in the way, I hope not. I want to get everything ready for the install, tank out, stock head off, carbs, etc. I have already ordered jets, pulled chokes, and cut my tamper caps off so I could add some nifty mixture knobs.

Why would the tank need to come out? I think I could easily get in there with a nut driver to get the hose clamps on and off...

Thanks again,

pull the tank. once the pipe is in, there is VERY LITTLE room to get you hand behind the tank. if you can get it back there you will not be able to move it to where you need it to be.

You have to pull the tank to put the pipe in anyways, so just get rid of it.

While your waititng for you pipe you may aswell put the head on and pull the carbs off too. They will need to be jetted.

A cutting disc on a dremel will take care of fitting the flame arrester with the head. It took me about 10 minutes to do it.

So I guess the tank comes out... You all feel the Riva head will fit with the stock F/A with some cutting? I hope so becasue the open type suck on my blaster. I am waiting on jets from JSS and and the pipe of course... if they dont show up and I have pulled my head, I will have a useless ski in my garage over the weekend. I wanted to put the head on but if the pipe cannot go on for some reason (jets or pipe dont show tomorrow) I will not be able to run the stock exhaust on the Riva head.

John has set me up with a 95gram springs, 135 main jets (as per FP), and 75 & 75.5 Pilot jets, should this get me in the ballpark? Ski is all stock except for the choke removal...

Should I be running at 40:1 because of my setup? I will be running 35cc domes @ about 185psi with this head.

Thanks for the offer, but I have already taken care of that.

my dual 38's are set up that way. but i think he sent a 120 pilot jets. i was told to move up to 125's to get rid of my low end problem. boy do i hate rejetting and tuning.

Tell me about it, I hope I will be set with what I have got in terms of jets. I wish I had a tachometer to aid in tuning this beast. I have never had a pipe'd ski before, it better be all its cracked up to be...

I dont think it will be so hard, just go for the Hi speed jets and it will run fine! If this serves any, down here there is a very important builder who is installing the B pipes on many freestyle and limited boats, and just opens up the hi speed adjuster....they run just fine! I also have a 08 but I prefer to be a tad rich and will install 135, but from previous experience, there isnt so much guessing with just a pipe.
While you are there, the flame arrestor has 3 screens inside its metal filter. Remove 2 of them ;)

I got my pipe today... So bad ass and new!!! They sent it with two #135 jets, FP said they dont ship with jets... so now I have an extra set. I didn't realize the chamber was so big. Anyway, on the the jetting, I think I will try the 135's and the 75's for the pilot. I will be removing a few screens from the F/A, should I lower my pop off from the 115 gram spring to the 95 gram spring as well?

Thanks for all of the help,

I have heard that the new '08 has a stiffer spring and posibly a diff N&S and FP calls for a 95gram spring. I think I will try and run the 95g since I have pulled the chokes and will remove the two extra screens.

Thanks again for the assistance and recomendations,
