FX-1 Does this sound unreasonable?

I just finished breaking in my FX-1 today. Its only got a protec pipe, light flywheel, and boyesen reeds. The thing seems like a monster now compared to the worn out motor from last year. The issue is, not it seems to bounce off the rev-limiter when I hammer on the throttle. I didnt think it would be possible with only these light mods. Would I be correct in thinking that this is the problem?

Thats the life of a fx-1 fab in a 144 pump to keep it hooked up

Im not sure what prop is in it. Its def. stainless but the guy who I got the ski from didnt know what prop it is. It hooks up and pulls real hard, just bounces off the rev limiter a whole bunch.

mine is all stock with a b pipe only and tau ceti flame arrestor. if you give it full throttle she will play the tune of the rev limiter haha sounds like a gorilla in your engine compartment throwing glass cups and plates around. sounds like your ski rips super hard, when your going wide open across flat water when your ski is fully hokked up does it get off the limiter and continue to pull? mine bounces the rev all day with my stock cdi but even with it pounding the rev limit when it hooks back up going flat out across the water it just continues to pull.

besides reliability being a factor alowwing a few hundred more rpm maybe even 500-700 more on the rpms and it will just have that much more power. with mine being completely honest if its acually hooked up in the water its right at the limit but not tapping it yet. but on a standup when is the water ever completely flat right haha gotta get out on a weekday for that. after i pay for my b pipe i may try out a protec cdi or just mod my spare cdi, but i feel like my fx with just ride plate jet dynamics scoop grate and b pipe it has all the speed i need. i can nose stab just off my own throttle with a tiny hop. i plan to be trying rolls at closer to mid throttle anyways. i dont even mind/bother with the pump on this. i bet with a stainless prop itd be even better.

Mod your own CDI or find a used MSD or similar. If its an aftermarket prop try to rotate the dshaft and and look into the intake grate to see any #s you can, The pipes and CDIs and lightened flyweels , milled or aftermarket heads.. really get that 701 and 122mm pump up to its limits quickly. you can upgrade your pump/driveline with glass work and SJ parts. or you can have your current prop repitched by a pro like skat trak or impros if you are unsure what it is pitched at and explian your current concearns and setup. I chose and now use skat. But ive used impros too. Try modding your cdi and sealing it back up really well. that stock pump will yeild a little more hook if pitched correctly. But ultimatley will reach its limits as you go much further. Good Luck! Long Live FX1 !

upped limit will allow it to extend its range. taking the lid off the jar. find the thread for modding the cdi its definitely not too hard to do just takes patience. and an extra cdi of course.

I called protec. They make it adjustable and they set it at 9000rpm when they send the unit back to me. He said to just leave it at 9000 and forget about it. That seems excessive for one of these motors to be spinning that quick.

leave it at 9,000. the reasoning behind that is that under load the ski will only rev up so high anyways, the prop will only allow for so much speed. basically its always going to hit the rev limit if your pump isnt hooked up, so with no rev limiter dont goose it in the air like a redneck haha. control the throttle and you wont stress the engine badly, being able to go all the way up to 9k rpm will make for fun smooth water riding, just streight up non stop pull of power.

with only a new pipe the pitch of the stock prop is too short.
Check the pitch .don't touch the cdi ;)
19/24 will be fine.
if you'r planning of adding more power think of change to 140 or 144 pump setup it will be a different ski.
