After hearing about Zack, Stanton an some others today getting their skis impounded, it's not worth it. Here in CA it costs 29 to register an aftermarket hull as homebuilt. Just bringing attention to something most people don't consider, they will take your shiot. No different then driving a car around with no license plate or VIN number. I just hope they're able to prove ownership and get them back, good luck guys. To everyone else, do what it takes to be legit.

$29 or a $2300 fine is a no brainer, not to mention if they can't prove ownership those skis will be auctioned off. Not worth it, DMV sucks major a55 here, but I'd rather sit there for an hour or two rather then watching 20+k drive off on a flat bed.

Aren't they sponsored riders? Does that complicate the ownership/titling process at all? If a company sponsors you a hull, who actually owns it?

^ true story moto! I went for a test ride on my 750 that I just built this winter, wasnt out for 10 minutes and had the DNR/ranger guy waiting at the dock for me because I didnt have my new reg stickers on...told him to run the HIN it was registered in my name and I had 70 days to put the stickers on..still got a few good warnings..

Doesn't matter, if your riding with no CF #'s, registration etc they're gonna confiscate it. Like I said, one form and $29 to register as homebuilt, they give you a registration card right there and issue you registration, cf numbers and a HIN.

^ Is there another thread that talks about zachs ski getting impounded? I must have missed this...they just didnt have registration on their skis so they got impounded? How many skis were taken?

When your a sponsored rider, they don't just give you a 10k hull. You still gotta buy it at a discounted price. Lee Stone is a prime example, look at the issues between him and EME, yet he's selling his hull. So if they gave it to him, don't think they'd let him take it back to Aussie.

crappy deal for everybody but there was no need for people to say F---the police on FB!! they were doing there job. Now, image if your ski got stolen and then the idiots were caught riding it by the same officers. I guess they would be your heros then!

I had a similar incident the day before my ski was leaving for in a truck for 2004 world finals. It was an AM hull that I just got done building and wanted to test it just before. Of course, I ran into FWC (florida fish and wildlife). It took about an hour of begging and showing him that I actually built these for a living and thank god he believed me and gave me a warning.
Lesson learned folks!

About a month ago a cop pulled me and a buddy over on the lake saying two stand ups were reported stolen that day which was bs. We were the only 2 on the lake that day, just minding our own business and he soo graciously gave me a warning for no fire extinguisher.

Waterfreak^^ Exactly what I said, theyre doing there job. That's why I referenced driving a car/truck around with no license plate or vin #'s. Of course they're going to take it, they have to. Not their fault the people involved didn't take the right steps. Especially for sponsored riders like that, no excuse whatsoever in my opinion. Looks bad on them, their sponsors etc. Not to mention if they can't prove ownership via a paper trail, those will be auctioned off like any other vehicle. Cops were doing there job, plain and simple. Sucks for those involved, that's why I started this thread, be sure you have all your shiot legit, no reason not to.

Isn't there a story a few years back of Blowsion losing 2 skis to customs for lack of proper documentation? They were being shipped for a big show overseas and they were impounded and never seen again.
