Driveshaft vs. Bench Vise

I've heard that a breaker bar helps in removing SJ impellers as they are often stubborn, check this out there was enough torque to break the casting on my vise.
Ended up getting it off with a large adjustable on the spline side and a some heat on the impeller. The new concord went on with anti-sieze

I did the same thing a couple weeks ago with a Kawi pump and impeller. I snapped the jaw off a 5" Bessey.

I replaced it with a 6" Bessey that is hopefully a little more rugged.

I ended up using the wrench, that worked better for sure. I liked this vise so much better than the big huge wilton i had before it- it was overkill and took up space. I used this one mainly for woodworking, its obviously not as tough as the threads on the impeller though. i'll throw a weld on it and see if its salvageable. Man it was a loud crack too

I use a lathe, you can chuck it up real close to the impeller and not have all that nasty deflection in the shaft.

Cheap Chinese crap. I hate the stuff. I'm trying very hard to buy US made products whenever possible. It may not be cheaper, but it certainly is better.

Its trued and welded back up tonight. Its definitely Chinese but not HF. we'll see if it holds next time!
I'm all about buying 'Merican....really I am, but on disposables like Chinese junk....if it breaks and all i paid was 20% of a 'real' one- I'm good with it...and so is my hungry arse family

That's the big problem with buying inferior forein goods from China. Up front, the price makes you happy. In the long run, China has all our (USA's) money, and you can't afford to buy anything.
