Driveshaft won't go into midshaft all the way

My drive shaft comes into the hull about half an inch too far, bottoming out before the seal is against the shoe. I checked the hull with a complete stock 144 and it slid in no problem.

Is anyone able to tell me the method for determining where the driveshaft should sit when assembling a pump and how far the threads on the end of the driveshaft stick out the back of the pump with the cone off? I'm thinking it needs to be pressed another half inch into the stator.

Thanks!

I’ve read some issues like this in different Hull’s over the years here on the forum with the Solas pump...I think the tolerances on the Solas are slightly different than oem...works fine in stock sj Hull’s but causes problems in aftermarket sometimes. I had a superfreak with a similar issue but with stock pump but all I did was press the midshaft forward a bit.

I’m thinking you’ll need the midshaft spacer and press midshaft forward a bit to get it all to fit in there

Can you measure your shaft from the stator and compare to a stock SJ?

I'm out of the country, but I have an SJ pump I can measure for you when get back. That should tell you whether the pump was assembled correctly.

Thanks for all the info folks. I have an assembled 96-07 superjet 144 with a driveshaft in it and will get some pictures and measurements tonight of that against the 144 mag.

Thanks!

Picture doesn't help much but from the edge of the pump to the end of the driveshaft on the stock 144 is 21 and 15/16 and the edge of the pump to the end of the driveshaft on the 144 mag measures 22 and 6/16.

About 3/8 or 10mm difference. Is it possible the bearing was not pressed all the way?

That is strange indeed. The Solas 144 pumps I've used have the drive shaft potruding about 5/16" less - not more. That's because the housing area against which the front bearing is located is thicker than oem. Jetmaniac has even made longer drive shafts for that purpose, so there would be better spline engagement.

I appreciate all the feedback guys. I think my best bet is to send it out to Jetmaniac or someone to reassemble/confirm it's a pre-08 driveshaft and make sure it's spec'd properly.

Thanks,
Kevin
