Dropping in a 760 into a stock square

I'm picking up a 760 from a wrecked sitdown. It will come with stock carbs, manifold, stock exhaust, electrical box and stator. My 650 square has all stock parts in it. Will I need anything else? Will the stock 760 exhaust fit ok?

It will not fit properly because the 760 bolts are 8mm where the 650 is 6mm. The gasket surfaces inside will not match and the chamber size is too small for the 760 thus poor performance. You should also use the 650 stator, electrics, & stator cover. Go ahead and get some kind of aftermarket exh system for a SJ like a B pipe. It will fit a lot better and the power gains will be worth it. Here is a link to an exh system for a SJ
http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/22344 You might have to install 6mm helicoils in the cyl to make this bolt up but it might be something to look at.

You will need to swap the ebox and stator if you don't have a flywheel. The 760 comes with a flywheel-cover mounted stator (like the 1200 Yamaha), whereas the 650 comes with a case mounted stator. Keefer is correct, the exhaust from the 650 will not work in any way. Physically, if the 760 exhaust will fit into the hull, and you can get it plumbed then use it otherwise you are going to need a bastard setup. The most common is a Factory pipe with the 760 manifold. You can use the 701 manifold if you either timesert the cylinder from 10mm down to 8mm or drill out the the manifold to accept the 10mm bolts. It will fit but the ports still won't align perfectly.

Good luck. Hope you got a good deal on the setup.

send a PM to "SN760"

does the screenname give you any clue why to contact him?

Yep, he da man. He's done 2 so far, mine that has only mild mods and his that is punched nearly to 800cc, ported, etc, etc. I called him to give him a heads up that you might contact him. He doesn't post or surf much, but he said he might post. He will certainly reply to a PM if you send him one.

I happen to know this cuz he's my hubby and one of the nicest people you will ever meet/talk to.

I would get the price for just the 760 shortblock. Meaning w/o the wiring box, starter, flywheel cover, flywheel, and stator since you can use your 650 stuff there. Should save a good bit, then you can sell your 650 as a shortblock.
You really only need the exhaust manifold off the 760, not the whole exhaust pipe. The stock exhaust in the 701 Raider is huge and will not fit into a standup I would imagine the GP760 pipe will not either.

I would really like to get the newer ign system, since it's better. My old 650 rev limiter is pretty low also.
As long as I get the manifold, my old exhaust will bolt up with no issues?

Still wondering if this a good price, and any suggestions on how I should pay for it without getting scammed.
Motor is comming from Charolette, NC from someone I don't know.
