Toddler Struck, Killed By Jet Ski At Beach
Two Men Charged With Vessel Manslaughter, Police Say

SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. -- Two men were allegedly drinking before they hit and killed a toddler with a Jet Ski, police said Sunday.

John Blanchard, 63, and Allan Minkema, 52, are accused of steering a watercraft on to Mosquito Beach at the Feather River Saturday evening, hitting a boy standing in about 6 inches of water, police said.

According to witnesses, the Jet Ski was traveling at about 15 to 20 mph, police said.

Authorities said Blanchard and Minkema face charges of vessel manslaughter.

Anyone else notice that there were about 10X more weekend warriors on the water this weekend? Yesterday was a freakin zoo. Knuckleheads everywhere.

Between the Bud swilling Checkmate driving rednecks and the yuppies in their MasterCrafts towing tubers with no spotters, I was honestly fearing for my safety. I had to head in a couple times and wait for things to settle down.

GD idiots...why do people not realize that it's stupid to drink and drive, regardless of whether you are on asphalt or water???

The other weekend, we watched 2 people on a newer Seadoo run the boat ~ 15 feet onto the shore without a trailer or anyone lifting it...

It looked like the person in control wasn't aware skis don't turn with the engine off.

Yeah i was out yesterday and there seemed to be 10x more idiots on the lake than normal. mostly the yuppie frat boy in their daddies ski boats with no spotters, had to be more alert than usual in my spot good traffic for wakes but damn having to cut 3 sharp 180's cause some idiot college boy was watching his tuber and not where he was going was getting on my nerves. Almost chased down one kid and jumped on his boat to whip his ass. My friends wife was on my ski just cruising around on her knees and this dumb******** comes roaring right by her like 10feet... I seriously almost had a ********ing breakdown and my buddy(her husband) almost jumped in his fast ass bass boat and went looking for a fight. Drunk people driving things piss me off.

That is a terrible story... maybe as a jet-ski community we can do something for the family... help show the world that there are some responsible jet-skiers out there not just a bunch of punk @$$ biotches ruining it for everyone.

It has been getting bad like that around the North-Coast. There are a lot of cheap old couches that are turning up in the hands of people who have no clue about boating / water safety or rules. They drive them like they stole em and run em till the quit, with no regard for people around them. I have almost gotten into plenty of fights with these kind of @$$holes. Running full throttle into the beach doing 360's in 2 ft of water with little kids building castles in the sand just a few feet away.

It's only getting worse too with these 255 horsepower couches being put out with 0% financing for everyone you got people who's first ever ride on a ski is at 65 mph and not a clue what todo about it. I see people running these $15k skis into the ground... again with no regard for people or safety... run them till the quit b/c daddy will pay to fix it or buy me a new one when it breakes.

... oh yeah daddy is a good lawyer and can get me out of trouble... no worries have another brew...

arghh I pull some hair out everytime I ride anymore... glad to be on the X and meet some great responsible riders.

Yeah well their stupidity keeps me pretty busy fixing their chit in my shop when I am home... and should be riding with you guys... oh-well it's keeping me in business...

When I see the harmless nut jobs just tearing up their skis all I can do is laugh and see green!

It the dangerous @$$holes that get me pissed and seeing red!

I think thats a great idea - HUGE - JeTT as mediator maybe you could facilitate that? I would total donate some cash for that cause. I think we as a group and the responsible site/members we are we should try and help out.

The point is not to show up with a group hug and try to console them... But showing that we as a group disagree with the actions of these idiots and we as a group want to try and help them with there loss.

It's about disapproval of the actions of a few and the support of many...
