Dual bilge pumps of stock syphon ?

Boris

Right now I have one 500GPH bilge pump and the stock syphon on my 90 SJ.
It seams that it takes for ever to pump the water out of the bilge after every fountain so I was thinking of adding a second pump.
I don't think I could handle the down time right now so a one way valve is out of the question, I'll save that for when I do the foot holds and re foam.

I could use the syphon line for added cooling to the motor as I think it's running too hot now that the summer is in full swing.

Does that sound reasonable or would it be safer to leave the syphon for reliability reasons ?

P.S. I am working on a hood (taking my sweet a$$ time) which will reduce the amount of water going into the bilge.

ditch the syphon....go duals

You shouldnt need dual cooling unless your running a pretty heavy modded boat. I'm running most basic bolt ons expect carbs and a tiny bit of porting and im still good

Got it.

Hood= priority number 1.

In the mean time I'll gather up all the necessary parts for the second bilge pump and throw it in there.

Another solution would be to get over doing fountains and start learning some real tricks.

2 500s and the factory siphon.

DO NOT REMOVE the factory siphon.

I like the redundancy of having electric and siphon.

2 bilges empties my squares pretty quick, even with a POORLY sealing hoodseal.

YES!! When you are filling your boat up on purpose, don't rely solely on an electrical method to empty it. There are many ways for a bilge pump to fail, but very few ways for the siphon to do so. Only dump the siphon when you have the time to put in a one way or a scupper.

The 1100's are taller, and obviously draw more power. But I'm 90% sure the base is the same. They won't fit under your coupler.

Base is the same and it will fit under the edge of the coupler cover with a small recess notched in the side. It has a 1 1/8" outlet. Moves a lot of water.

The 800GPH is the same size as the 500: a couple of those really empties the boat fast. It's a Rule though, so it's still going to air-lock and drive you nuts....

So Mister Lake swallower,
how and were did you mount the 2 pumps ?
I can get both under the shaft but than I have no room for the syphon pickup.
The one pump I have in there now is an Attwood 500GPH that is glued to the bottom of the ski.

Lucky for me I have the older style of bilge syphon with that black rubber hose thing next to the pump. From what I have read on here that setup can fail and fill the ski up with water straight from the pump.
Great.

put one of the bilges in the front of the engine by the fuel tank. 2 x Rule 500s in both my SJs right now. I dont do real tricks or even turn real well.

You need both pumps under the driveshaft, but you have to move the stock siphon forwards. You can stick it down, make your own bracket, or I believe the Blowsion bracket has the mounting holes for the siphon pick up. I just fiberglassed mine down with some epoxy resin and a couple of pieces of mat.
