Ear protection

After hearing about all the busted up ear drums I've been planning to duct tape my helemet ear holes. I've also heard that you can still bust them in a helmet with no ear holes. Would ear plugs be a sure fire way of protection?

i'd like to add to this Q. with a helmet like a pro rider...(i haven't seen one in person, so i don't know what the liner looks like) can you sew in neoprene over the ear cups?? will this help any or is pointless?

the pro-rider doesn't have a soft liner that goes all the way around it on the inside. its' just hard foam with a little padding hear and there. Some of my padding has fallen out...

hope i'm not thread jacking, but do you think that helmet was a waste of $$ should you have gotten a better one or are you happy with it??

Don't use ear plugs, the force of the watr could drive them further into you ear and have the same effect. :bigeyes:

You can always put a condom on your ear so you don't get hearing aids!

Jack away errr.... I think the prorider is a great deal. $50 plus shipping. I've smacked it very hard against the ski multiple times while wearing it with no problems to me. I would have been pretty hurt without it. The perifial vision could be a little better. The loop latch could be plastic or non rusting metal, or just a snap latch.

If I were to buy a helmet today I'd try the walmart x-games bell helmet for $40.

I should also let you know that i'm the cheapest person I know so price it the #1 thing I look at then protection/durability/looks/weight.

We just got back from the boat show here in St. Louis. and at the wake board stores I tryed on the Pro-tec wave, its nice. The padding is water resistant- closed cell- and a flap covers your ears. I've found them on line for 53 to 55 dollars but there open face, last year my bell downhill mountain bike fulface helmet saved my teeth more than once. Lou

i posted the link to a neoprene head band on pwcT. there are several wakeboarders around here that f'up their ear. it does happen, but wearing a MTB lid has to help most of the time, but in the right situation it could be worse. at least it's vented to allow pressure out top/back if you plant face forward at WOT. heck, it's just like everything else, playing the odds, personally i'm more worried about a 14 year old running me over on a RXP where i ride.

i just don't like the protec - even if it were a full face. other then looking like a fag from the 80's it helps - just take it off with helmet.

heck next time, buy two sizes larger and turf the inside :arms:
