ebox stuck!?

Well I'm trying to get my ebox out and the two bolts holding it to the brackets are locked up. I've read about how to free those bolts with the box and brackets out of the ski, but I really don't feel like ripping up my turf to access the bolts holding the brackets on. Mine are recessed and under the turf.:banghead:

Any ideas on how to free those 2 bolts with the box still in the ski? Right now I'm just shooting it heavily with PB Blaster, tapping it with a hammer, and trying to pry it free.

Thanks:biggthumpup:

It's tough to get off if there is a lot of corosion. hope you don't have to get those bolts off under the turf but a running ski is better than a non-running pretty one.

I always leave those four bolts exposed. It really doesn't look bad and it is very practical especially with some pipes. Just take an xacto blade and cut around them. Then stick it in a vice or whatever and break them free. Use teflon paste on the threads next time.

Yeah it actually doesn't look that corroded. I figured it would just pop right off.:haha:

I may just put it off again and just ride for the weekend without the enhancer. No sense in wasting riding time. I was just hoping there would be some way to quickly do this.:cool2:

Yeah looking back on it I really wish I would have, but the guy helping me with my turf suggested that we countersink the holes and use flathead screws to recess the heads. It looks great because it's totally flush, but now I can't get the damn thing out.

Next time I do it I'll just leave the original bolts in there and cut the turf around them. Like you said it doesn't look that bad.

Yeah I bought the ski as a mint stock ski and I'm pretty sure the ebox has never been out of the ski and this is my first time trying to get into it. :banghead: I'll definitely have to stay on top of it here on out though.

The problem is you can't see the corosion, it's between the stainless threads and the aluminum ebox housing.

What do you all think about this?

I'll ride today without the nuts on there and maybe all the vibrating could help bust in loose. I know it's a long shot.

I had this same problem a month ago. I don't have the 4 mounting bolts covered, so I pulled the whole box, including brackets. The problem is you have to remove the bracket to get to the last 2 screws that seal the box. If it's corroded, those two bolts are NOT coming out.

You're going to have to cut through the turf, remove the box with the brackets still mounted, then bend them out of the way to get to the screws.

put a small slit, over each bolt, in the turf. just enough to be able to get whatever tool you need to back the four bolts out. the turf will stretch around the tool and the bolts. when you go to put it back, you can either use countersunk screws and see the bolts through the slits or just use oem bolts over the turf.

you shouldnt have to destroy the turf getting to those bolts though.

Yeah I read your thread and thought oh poop. Talk about a pain in the a$$.

my ebox still has one bracket that will NOT come out, but i can rotate it, once the box is out, to access the phillips screw underneath it.

It was a true pain. The brackets never budged. Can't rotate them. Thank God I managed to get all the connections right on the Enhancer and I didn't have to open the thing back up.

Spray them down w/ WD multiple times and let them sit overnight or find the bolts under turf. I now leave my bolts exposed due to this problem a few years back.

Just done this on a mates ski, remove box with brackets, heat bracket surrounding siezed bolt and gently twist untill the come free ( it will work and doesnt realy take that long ) just get it nice and warm

Hope this helps

Well we took a small screwdriver and were able to chip away at the corrosion on the inside. Unfortunately it's going to take forever so Im going riding, but once I have the time I know I can get it free by scraping out the corrosion between the bolts and holes.

i ditched those brackets and used some carriage bolts thru the bulkhead with spacer nuts and washers...works perfect!

You ditched those brackets?!? :cool2: :sneaky:

It makes taking a waterlogged e-box out sooooo much easier...:banghead:
