Electric 300sx build!

Took her out for a ride on fully charged battery and put the motor/controller in full power setting. Only hit 18mph. Not sure if I should go up to a 17 or down to a 15 degree impeller to get rpms/speed up?

If the motor/controller has constant torque output then higher rpm will mean more power, if the power is constant then lower rpm might be more efficient.

Blind speculation based on wild guesses on my part....maybe flip a coin lol. Try both.

I am fairly convinced that the biggest change on my freestyle 300SX came not from the engine swap but from swapping in the 650 pump, I wish I had tried it with the 550 reed engine and 650 pump it would have been interesting., the 440 pump sucks a$$.

I have a 650 pump and a 750 driveshaft. But not sure I want to spend the time or money on this thing doing a pump swap. and Keep throwing around the idea of putting this drivetrain in my carbon freestyle ski.

What I did on mine was leave the front section of the tunnel and somewhere around here I still have the mold for the back section, it all lined up pretty well actually.

One more option, I saw on the 300SX FACEBOOK page a few guys were putting in 550 pumps with aluminum brackets that bolted to the stock bearing box location, no bodywork needed but I do think they had to have the driveshafts shortened , any pump is better than a 440 pump , trust me on this one. That 550 mixed flow pump is much better for bottom end thrust and it was designed as a lower RPM pump.

That doesn't look too involved! I will keep an eye out for a 550 drive line. Appreciate the help. :)

I think I have a whole 550 pump setup here, I am really not planning to ever build another 550, if I do it will most likely be built with a 650 pump and engine or possibly a 640 Tigershark engine since I have several here to choose from.

I have Mariner stainless prop sitting here , pretty sure that will be a straight pitch 15 degree or so, I hate to see someone struggle with one of those 440 pumps, I know it was a night and day difference on my 550 with the reed engine..

I also played around with one on that 300SX build, best thing I did to that ski was put the 650 pump in it.

Finally got around to swapping impellers to the skat 15. Also spent a ton of time grinding out and smoothing out the pump. Probably a waste of time but now shes a good 8oz lighter. :) If it still sucks hopefully @WFO Speedracer still has the 550 setup for sale and I'll give that a shot next.

Also going to try increasing the power on the bms and motor controller.

Edit: Would it be worth putting the driveshaft on the lathe and taking a large amount off?

Pro-tip: Don't silicone sh1it in until you make sure everything fits properly.. The skat 5 prop might be for a 550 or is messed up as I could not get it to spin in the pump at all. So now it has a the nice fitting and spinning PJS 17. And I increased the max amps from 160 to 180.

Whoever guessed to go up in pitch was correct! I am sure my hogging out the nozzle and pump made for at least 1% of the gains though. =) Kiddo can take off like a rocket from shore now without cativating. I believe he was getting over 20mph but need to bring a gps to confirm. Ride time was also improved and I found the setting in my bms that was killing power from the battery earlier then it should have. So fingers crossed next ride will be perfect and I will be done tuning this thing.. until I get bored and do the 550 pump and larger motor. o_O

Haven't tried with the new setup, but in the last video with the speed runs and me trying to ride it, the kiddo got around 20-25 minutes. I also have another battery so I can swap them out pretty fast and put one on the charger (45-60min).
I built a 4000w drift trike and have been wanting to do this. Got the trike up to 35 and only slowed because of a frame wobble. I get two hours out of the battery but the wire get very hot. The small Tesla motor would be sweet lol

What do you all think about swapping the electric guts into a 550sx hull? Or should I man up embrace the itch and do the 550 pump transplant into the 300sx?

I prefer the ride of the 550 hull. Best kawi hull ever made. Would give you the option to try a 140 pump later on.
