Engine bay (is it all stock)? pics and homemade beach ramp

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Here are a few pics from this morning after my ride. Def going out again but its a fun workout ..last an hour this morning but change from 20 mon rides yesterday...

Does this look all stock?
There is a bulge pump switch with extra pump that must be aftermarket Im guessing

The electric bilge and switch does not come stock, but is so common I've never seen a square without it. Also it looks like a primer was installed, another common mod, as I believe they came with chokes.

The front rubber nose piece is missing. That turf job on the nose is something someone did, odd since the tray looks like stock turf. That's the black diamond turf I was talking about in your other thread on the nose there.

That cooling line has been replaced and your pipe chamber looks like it has been worn by sand? Someone must of sucked something up...thank god for that heat sensor which I'd fix before losing. (they are known to go bad and the simple fix is to open up the ebox and disconnect the pink wire, then close up)

Bars and throttle level look stock. I hate those angled bars, once I rode strait bars I became a purist!

You said you are satisfied with the power right?....you probably have a nice prop. Possibly an older skat prop, but any prop other than stock is an improvement.

Nice boat and I love that you have the stock gas tank sticker. Mine finally went from the wave water getting in the stock hood.

Lets see the underside to check out your intake grate and rideplate as well as if its been beached or not. (we all beach our skis)

Thanks for the info , two questions is there a link to a diagram of the engine parts so I can follow along with what you are describing easier
And no, now I am now not happy with the power I want to be dock dry start , I have the balance and technique, but the power just isn't quite there. It also takes too long to get to plane, I would like to be able to throttle and plane almost instantly now that I have the riding down.

Link to best straight bars I agree they would be better and bring pole level down a few inches which I feel is a little high.
And best prop to help achieve better torque
If anyone has some good used upgrades since money is so tight let me know I am in the market.

I will get some pics of the underside when I take it for a ride later today.

What oil is best for the ski, I am still on the full tank that came with the ski and I know he only used premium gas but didst get the oil brand.
I use AMSOIL in my sleds any input?
Thanks

Maybe I'll get it all the way around NEXT time....

Check the impeller, a square should pull most people dry start off the dock.

Maybe I mistook you for someone else talking about the prop? A bone stock square nose should plane you out instantly or almost. Something is probably up or the engine is worn way past its normal compression. Check that prop as @550/440 said. There is a manual on this website for the square nose that has every tolerance of every part. Carb could be dirty or tuned like crap too. Check fuel lines for cracks too.

  • When i start the ski pre ride on the ramp the throttle revs nice and feel the power so figure itmust be something below.. Will def check it out tomorrow,
  • Thanks

To answer the oil question, I use amsoil in every machine I own, it works great and I've never had and oil related issue, I primarily use HP injector but interceptor and dominator will work as well, I just like the hp because it makes the gas blue so I know which of my gas cans are mixed and which ones aren't

You should post a video of your dock start. Your carb might be out of tune or too dirty if it revs great on trailer but isn't powerful in water. One time I tuned my carb to rev reallly really nice on the trailer. It ran like poop in the water.

You can quickly tune a single carb by just turning the high speed screw all the way in and the idle speed to 1 turn out. Then you can give it a quick pull to see how well you plane out. Ride around just chopping the throttle to half way open. Go a quarter turn on the screw each way and see which is better. You will have NO high end power because the high speed is closed. Once you find the sweet spot on the low speed screw nudge it out juuuust a bit to make sure you arent too lean. Then you can do the same thing with the high speed.

I learned that from an article posted a while ago.

Again even a stock 650 superjet should plane you out instantly. The beauty of the yamaha driveline is the low end power which gives you the control to freeride.
