Super Jet Engine help

Long story short ski ran good then all of a sudden it would start, run for a min or 2, then die. When I got the ski home I noticed a nice big crack in the gas tank. Then decided since season is over would pull the motor and do a nice overhaul on the hull. Decided to pull the head to check how the pistons are and noticed some rust on the cylinder walls and piston. I know the walls look bad but I couldn’t feel any deep scratches with my finger nails

So first question, what could cause the gas tank to crack like in the picture?
Second could the rust on the cylinder walls be due to water possibly getting the gas from the cracked gas tank?

Plastic tanks get old and can dry out and crack eventually. As for the rust on the cylinder, the engine may of set up last year with moisture on top of the piston its pretty common since these motors injest so much water from inside the hull and the pipe sprays water in the exhaust that can get back into the engine. May be time for a fresh bore and set of pistons. Remember to brap the engine out good after every ride and fog it if its going to sit stored. I brap mine and fog mine after every ride. I even restart it the next day and fog it a little more if it going to sit very long. Good luck..
