Super Jet Engine paint for a saltwater ski

I drowned my superjet
pulled the engine completely apart
ordered new parts/gaskets
got a friend to media blast all cases - he took all exterior paint off too..:aargh4:


now I need to figure out the best thing to paint the engine exterior with. powder coat? hi temp engine paint? ceramic? bbq grill paint? finger paint?:1zhelp:
 
Teflon coating. Im going on 5th year. holding up well. Big debate over Powder coating vs ceramic coating pipes. My dry pipe is ceramic coated and holding up well. 99% salt water riding.

I gotta say I only hit the water 4/5 times this year with my sj, haha. But yea its holding up great.

so tell me more, what is teflon coating? how's that work? like a nonstick pan?
 
I'm also curious what different people are using on their engines. I would think proper prep and paint. I was wondering if the paint OEMs like Yamaha use have any better mileage compared to other paints ot coatings.
 
My skis see nothing but salt......best I have found is no paint. I've had bare aluminum cases/bed plates for a couple years now and they are still perfect. All my painted engines eventually corroded due to moisture getting underneath the paint and then bubbles and corrosion.

Key thing is to rinse with fresh water after riding, then I use teflon silicone spray and it stays perfect.

No joke! I was amazed after looking at yours and marks boats how clean the engines look. I'm surprised at how well no paint and some silicon lube works.
 
i use a good zinc primer from west marine
then any color engine paint you want
the primer is expensive for a rattle can but works good
and wash after riding is the key to longevity

I use Moeller Zinc Chromate primer on boat outdrives, Quicksilver Phantom Black, and Quicksilver clear coat. I have painted several boat and pwc engines with Phantom black as well. It holds up nice (for my freshwater stuff anyways).

Our engines are made from an alloy that is corrosion resistant. The main problem is around bolts, make sure to seal around every bolt head.
