Engine revs when pump unloaded

My mildly modified 701 has started increasing rpms similar to a runaway situation when the pump load drops. For example, when I jump, when ski is upside down, or occasionally on the trailer. Upon landing, righting ski it returns to normal and runs well. If it happens on trailer pinning throttle and pulling lanyard kills it. Thought it might be fuel pick ups but they seem fine. Sprayed around carbs with no signs of leaks. Ideas?

I can't say rpms, just enough to keep it from stalling. Are you saying turn down the idle?

If it's barely above stalling, I'm probably on the wrong track. I turn my idle up for every ride and down again when back out of water, so sometimes I get carried away and it revs when I jump out of water.

I would take it apart and pressure test the engine/intake - nothing worse than a run-away ski.
