EPA and 2 strokes

What is the future of new 2 strokes? There may already be a thread on this topic, but I'm curious. What will the freestyler's do if EPA bans them? We can only recycle for so long...

I know of a motorcycle company using direct injection on 2 strokes to meet emission standards.

We can recycle for a LONG LONG time. I think they are completely gone in 2012 though.

I could be wrong though.

Do you work for N.O.A.H.?

Oh. Nevermind that is NOAA.

well I am by no means an expert, however I have worked on the mercury optimax. It has direct injection that injects fuel and air to better atomize the fuel. I have heard that it runs cleaner and more effeint than the 4 stroke counter parts. I have never worked on the Evenrude E-TEC but have heard it also has the same power and reduced polution as the mercury optimax. I have not seen how they acomplish this but I know it works well from what friends of mine have told me. There are also other 2-stroke motors that have been experimented with like one that has a diaphragm seperating the crank case and the reed valves so you no longer need 2-stroke oil .With a closed crank case you use regular oil . One other is one I saw on beyond tomorrow it uses a wedge type piston anchored at one side with a piviot pin allowing only the seals to be in contact with the walls allowing the use of less oil much less ,it was to be used in motorcycles and was made in Newzeland I think. I havn't heard anything about them for years and hope they didn't get stopped by some political b.s. but who knows they could very well be in our future jet skis . As far as I am concerned 4-strokes will never replace the abillities of a 2-stroke

So when the ban gets here does that mean they stop making the oil as well? Because no matter now much we can recycle the motors we cant recycle the oil.

I think its KTM that is doing the whole direct injection thing on 2 strokes...as far as evreyone else though...honda, kawi, and suzuki already quit with the 2 strokes...and yamahas last two stroke dirtbike will be made in 08 so all you're goin to see in GNCC raceing is ktm's...as far as jetski's i don't think they are too far behind on not making a 2 stroke anymore i know its very hard to get a superjet around here, we had to travel 2 hours away to get ours and word is that yamaha was hesitant about makeing the second production of them for this year even...don't know if you'll be able to get one in 08...WHICH SUX!! Its like a nightmare!

My favorite saying "STOP HUGGING TREES AND STOP AND SMELL THE TWO STROKES!"

ITs so sad, that the technology is there, to make them burn cleaner then a 4 stroke... yet no one listens or cares. So they just ban it. Which is crap, because the 2 strokes hold up much better and perform much better in these types of product. Jet skis, dirt bikes, atvs etc.. I dont think they can just BAN them. I think they can stop new sales, but how fair is it to just say there banned you cant use them anymore. IF thats the case then I expect the f-ing government to buy my now rendered useless ski off me. :aargh4: this type of crap pisses me off so much, its ruining this sport and others.

there was direct injected 2 strike skis before the 4 strokes hit the market. i don't recall what happened with that though

i think ficht fuel injection or somthing and there was one other something orbital???????/

soon the 2's will be gone, there is no doubt

i don't think they will make us stop riding though, we will be aged out slowly

Why can't the manufactures produce a 4 stroke standup for now with the motor being the same dimensions as our current 2 stroke motors. So we can just swap motors after buying one.

ive seen that setup with an extra set of rings on the lower portion of the piston, to prevent oil from being blown out....IE cleaner exhaust

nothing else compares to the power to weight ratio like a two stroke. i think the future is rotary!! no pistons changing directions (less friction)...capable of much higher rpm at much cooler temps!! its complex but fewer parts than a four stroke..

I look @ motocross...(the arm out of socket 450cr) and it's a 4 stroke, they have come a long ways ie.weight The problem seems to be, for a freestyler, if (when) it takes on water. It's alot more than pulling the plugs.

2 strokes are so easy to work on. 'bout a week and 400$ (bored/pistons/rings/gaskets) And my brap will be back!

cuz if you had the same displacement in a stroker it would be a dog, or need a supercharger/intercooler bs,,,and be heavier

that was my point some cheap throw away 4 stroke motor. so we can throw in a stroker 701 to replace it. :sneaky:

bottom line there are still plenty of parts out there for now. The things I have seen on the X say that the stand up,x-2 ,and performance guys are highly adaptible no matter what epa does something will be done to get around it whether its 2-stroke or rotary (freedom rotary motors) or something else. WE WILL SURVIVE. :brap:2-strokes rule
