Luckily wasn't in a deep lake and got a quick rescue but the q8 went down. Didn't know why it went down so fast because it never takes on water. Upon dragging it up land we discovers this torn epic scupper flapper. Piece of poop junk

You don't have the best luck with keeping skis afloat.
Also, I hate to point out the obvious - but imho everybody knows that scuppers are boat sinkers. It was your choice to use on that sunk the Q8. :clown:

I'm really glad you got it back so quickly.

what the point of the scupper ? is it that much better than a stock syphon and bilige pump ? looks like a great way to sink a ski in less than 10 sec. not your fault i was just wondering about the whole scupper thing.

did the am hull builders just not put foam in them to save weight ? asking because I have never owned one.

To be honest it was scarey at first but then once all was good it was a bit comical. I didn't choose to put a scupper on the boat...that's how the q8 comes equipped. Rest assured its now plugged up as I sure as hell don't trust them

Thats some bad luck there bro. hate to see that. I'm a scupper guy and no bilge, but these stories always scare me. I inspect my scupper every ride. My xmetal scupper wore out and stretched. I have an epic now too but have never had an issue with the new model. Versi plugs are they way to go...IMO.

So let me get this straight, this q8 came from eme with that scupper as posted in the first pic? Or the previous owner installed it? Just wondering.

I doubt it's a new EME hull. They come with polyurethane foam.
I have seen one a couple years old that had quite a bit of water in that foam. After seeing the inside tray construction I guess I am not horribly surprised at that

TLDR: hulls soak up water. Scuppers suck.

Steve asked me at least 6 times if I wanted a scupper or a versaplug... Every time I was like 'dude, no...' Lol...
When I bail from a flip attempt and my 10lb billet pole turns the ski over, I want that bish to hold air.

Sorry about your luck but defintely glad you didn't lose it permenantly. Out of curiosity, if you had a "retriever", would it have helped?

Same with my Freak a couple of years ago. I was one of the rare customers that got one built without scupper and with extra plumbing to run an OEM siphon. Lol

Last weekend I was riding with daniel martin and his scupper came completely off the back of his kdx 1200. He didn't sink but he said it got very heavy all the sudden. With the help of a water bottle and duct tape he was able to finish riding for the day.
