Freestyle ET1107cc Tuning Thread

Anyone run dasa 48s? I have some full spec 49e but I’m having issues with these carbs. Backfiring and doesn’t run good. I believe the backfire is the kill switch so a new one is coming. But I’m pretty sure the carbs are flooding the engine.

Back firing is typically a timing issue. Check that your woodruff key is still in your flywheel holding it in place.

It backfired once. The other day. I than had it running today for probably 25seconds maybe less just enough to heat cycle it. Got it warm. Ski shut off on its own. Cranked for 10 seconds but wouldn’t start and decided to let it sit. 45mins later hit the button and bang it backfired. I’m having carb issues such as pop off and they just seem messed up. I’ll be waiting for a nee pop off tester as well as the kill switch before I try it again.

The FS 49 and Dasa/Riva PB 48 is so close. I ran back to back with same jetting and having a really hard time telling the diffrence.
So go with same jetting as your FS 49 and youre good

Leaking N/S maybe ?
I’ve been working on setting my pop off. It doesn’t leak while I’m testing but when it’s running I can see the rear carb was dumping some fuel.

Thank you for the advice. I’m gonna see if I can get these 49s worked out but I may end up getting the 48 dasas and calling it a day.

Is it a fresh motor? If not, check reeds. I had a rogue issue like this last year with fuel splashing out of mains. Ended up being a missing/cracked reeds. Also, make sure the check valves are doubled on the kidney block. Make sure you are using oem mikuni gaskets (aftermarket kidney block gaskets and other parts are garbage). Finally, it’s pretty common to get some splashing out the mains at idle on a big CC stroker motor - I believe it’s more prevelant on the rear cylinder even (as far as I remember).
What NS/spring combo are you using? Do you have your return jet in?

Yes a brand new et1107. Barely run maybe 1min of run time. The reeds were fine but the ski has now backfired twice. Which could mess with the reeds from what I’ve read. I only have one check valve on my tank but I will get another as well. I’m running a 2.0 seat and the pop offs are around 24 on one and 25 on the other. And yes I have the 60 return jet in.

I’m talking about the check valves inside the carbs. The little tiny clear plastic flaps on the back of the blocks that cover the jets. Generally, you run two on a stroker motor that rattles and shakes a lot. Pop off seems reasonable. Yes, backfires can break reeds.

Ohhhh okay my bad. I could put 2 on there. I’m thinking about sending these to full spectrum to have him redo them. Just wanna ride at the April fools ride.

So its a brand new ET1107 short block from Art?
Have you had the engine running with no issue/back fire?

Did the ignition and carbs come from a perfect running ski?

So I believe the kill switch is messing with the ignition. Causing unburnt fuel to go into the exhaust and than ignite. So I’m thinking that will solve that issue. The carbs I got for free pretty much after I got them. They say for about 2-3 years before I got them. So there not new. I’ve been trying to get them worked out and get them going. Once the kill switch is here and I can confirm the electrical is all set than the carbs will be my main focus. But the ski runs decent just super rich when it doesn’t have an electrical cut out or anything caused by the kill switch.

any reply on this ?

Also have a brand new ET1107 with 52mm carbs and Zeel ignition with custom race gas map.
Was hard to start and backfired. broke the bendix and the woodruff key..

Also seems to be running rich. flooded twice while running on the trailer, in the water.

currently have 145 low, 125 high, 2.0 needle , 60 return jet

Will return on the water in a few days to continue testing/tuning. changed the bendix avec key and ran good...

all the same questions apply - do you have the new zeel that allows you to leave the 3rd lump? If so, what lumps do you have left and what setting on the zeel? Do you have the correct static angle of 56? some shipped with the wrong static angle. do you have +/- signal checked? if not, you are getting a lot of timing during startup.

I have the latest version Zeel. I have the 3rd lump removed on my flywheel . So it is setup for twin lobe on the program.
Static is 56
30 us delay compensation
Trigger mode: + and - signal.

100 rpm : 9*
1000 rpm : 18*
1800 rpm : 32*

My friend just solved his back firing issue. It was one spark plug boot taking a poop. It would not fire every time allowing fuel to build up and boom! He tried every jetting combo and different carbs and checked all his wiring until he figured it out. Changed the boots and now runs perfect

I changed my coils completely and still has the same issue.

I have recently built an ET1107 running PFP wet, zeeltronic TL, dual mikuni 46s, 150 psi compression on an aggressive curve provided by @Jcary85 . 155 OEM pump in a carbon superfreak.

I started as directed by Art before he passed away for:
130 pilot
120 main
17 psi all at 7k foot elevation.

I have to close all my screws almost all the way in and it's not running well. Advice on recommended jet sizes to try? I'm not running any jet in my return line either. Figured it wasn't needed for mikunis that have not been modified. I was told this motor does best with reverse jetting but that may have been with modified big carbs? Sorry I'm rambling....
