Well I called up Hydroturf a few hours ago. I told the lady on the phone about how the Green turf fades. She pretty much told me that no one has ever complained about the green and i was the first. She said the colors that fade terrible are the YELLOW, ORANGE, AND RED.

So I went on and on (due to I REALLY WANT GREEN TURF AGAIN!) and she said one of the Techs there would post up here on the X to take a look at EVERY one with green who has faded. ( I dont think she believed me when i said I am NOT the only one who has green faded turf)

I guess we will have to wait and see.... I hope Hydroturf will Help us out...

I am not bustin yer ballz here-just a comment-

She said the orange fades really bad-u can see my turf that has been on since Nov and a week and 1/2 ago was at the beach uncovered for 4 straight days w/little to no cloud cover and u see how mine looks-GO BUY SOME SCOTCHGAURD. I am living proof the crap works(SO FAR).

I got ya. I'm not sure who you talked to, but be sure and talk to Toni.
She is who I do all my ordering from and she is VERY helpful/pleasant.
I would go so far as to say, call back and ask for Toni and plead a case with her. I am a HT dealer and sponsored rider and therefore you would think they would put me at the end of the list behind all their 'retail' customers-but she never does. She is a class act in my book. Ck your pm's in a sec.

The Red turns pink! (Ask Surfersmurf.)

I am going with black and white turf.

So far it feels the same, cleans up ALOT easier. I get grease spots on it now and it wipes off instantly w/a little soap or acetone.

Yep. Turned minty fast, no good. If they want pics, I'll give them some side by side shots of my ski. It faded almost instantly.

Mike here,
Can any of you please send me pictures of the faded out green turf. I would like to see what is happening.

We have fading issue with the RED, YELLOW & ORANGE but have not had any complaints in regards to the GREEN.

Please send those pictures to mike@hydroturf.com , be sure to include your name, phone #, date order placed or invoice# & the name the order was placed under. IF you provide me with this information I will be able to take care of you.

For now if you lightly sand the top of the turf the color should brighten up, it works with the other color so I am hoping it does for the GREEN as well.

Regardless of of the fading issues, I have to give HT kudos for taking the time to get on here, connect with their customers, and try to investigate/ address the problem.

Mike, what is goin on? I didn't see you at Nats 08! You better be there for 09! The HT tent looked like a morgue without u there. BTW-as u can see in the pics-the Scotchgaurd trick works real well. I told Toni about is last time we talked.

good idea about the scotchguard. I'm going to try to clean my yellow turf & possibly bring it back with some fabric paint, then scotchguard. We'll see how it works out.

Instead of using fabric paint, just try lightly sanding the top of the material. It is not faded through all the way. The color should come back with a few passes of sanding, then use the Scotch guard

At any time if any of you have an issue with an order or a question please feel free to contact me.

I haven't tried this myself, but it's worth looking into. At an auto parts store today I saw "303 Aerospace Protectant". The label claimed it to be "like SPF40" for your vinyl, rubber, paint, etc. It was a spray bottle, and cost about $15.

Hi Mike,

My faded out green turf is like 5 yrs old by now and it lives out in the FL sun. There is absolutely nothing HT needs to do about it. I figure any color is going to fade after a certain amount of time in the sun. It still serves it's purpose. I just wouldn't go with green again.

I would be careful about the sanding a layer of it. The part of mine that turned yellow was the part that got lots of wear and tear (essentially where the top layer of mint had been worked away by feet).

Just a thought.

word  Mine isn't really faded too bad anyway. I keep it indoors, but it is dirty as hell. I'm assuming degreaser would be safe on it before sanding. BTW here is my build. http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/20940

edit: on second look, I guess it has faded a bit. I'll get to sanding and scotchguarding.

just talked to someone with HT on the phone. They said that 150 may be too course, but to use a very fine grit & just barely scuff the surface. I'm going to try it later today.
