SXR Factory Dry Pipe or Wet Pipe?

I was all set thinking I wanted to install a Factory Dry pipe on my SXR. After talking to Factory Pipe and Group K I am not sure if thats the right choice. First reason Factory Pipe does not make it no more. 2nd Group K stated the Pipe is very hard on the motor, and there are fitment issues. I am looking to build a limited ski that I will use mainly for buoy riding. I love a ski with a lot of low end but do not want to run race gas all the time so I want to bring the compression up to the limit that I can use pump gas. What do you guys think would be the right choice on the exhaust?

I would get the Wet Pipe. The Dry was prone to cracking. It is really heavy and puts alot of stress on the cylinders. Have seen a few that litterally cracked in half. You had a top and a bottom side of the cylinders.

Wet pipe all the way. They make great power and are virtually maintenance free.

if you get the newest generation of dry pipe and install a girdled head you will not have any issues. I have been running dry pipes on sxr's for several years now (5+) and have never had a cylinder crack and the pipe has never cracked. it basically comes down to how well you set it up.

if you want to actually race it, you will want the dry pipe IMO.

I agree on if you are going to actually race it. Then yes, you need the dry pipe.

I spoke to Factory Pipe and they said there was no running change on the dry pipe, that they are all the same.

there are definitely changes to them. i have personally seen 3 chambers each with different reinforcement plates. the most recent one is the one to get. ill see if i can get a picture to show you

If you are not going to competitively race, go wet pipe. So easy to tune. Been running mine for 11 years. NO issues with the pipe at all. Still using same coupler. Big Kahuna ^ used it before me.

Thanks for all the replys. It sounds like the wet pipe is the better choice.

Anybody try both? Just out of curiosity is there a big performance difference between the two?

dry has more hp under the curve overall.it's a little more peaky but when racing or running buoys it does not matter cause you never go under that rpm.h2o injection will really smooth it out if you need it and give tons of bottom end torque.there were at least 3 gen dry pipes made.the latest ones have all kinds of reinforcement plates welded and are very reliable if installed correctly.run a 650 sx rubber coupler for sealing and less maintenance. a girdle head is always a good thing on kawis no matter the pipe.
have run drys for years with no problems whatsoever.the wets are ok but dry is were the hp is.

Can you tell me if this is the newer version?
