Failed backflip damage!

I was riding with some buddies at Hugo on Sunday and Jim did a few backies...and of course they looked sweet. The water was pretty rough but there were sets that were head high. I saw a big one coming so I said screw it and went straight up the face and it stopped rotating while I was upside down. I fell out of the tray and covered my head and luckily it didn't land on me. I tried another one and I slipped out again but the ski actually make it all the way around and went in nose first. Now I'm really getting the itch so I try one more time, all i have to do is hang on. This time I go up the face, lean back and gun it! I feel the ski coming around but only rotates about 3/4 of the way so kick it away at the last second. I get back to the ski, flip it over and it starts...but it only revs...no movement :(
I get towed back to shore and get to see the damage:
-All 4 motor mounts are sheared, I had Kenny engine keepers but since the engine moved up and forward it went over top of them.
-The coupler on the engine side some how shattered completely. WTF?!?!
-A spark plug shattered against the inside part of the hood.
-And the coupler cover broke off an ear as well.
-The handle pole looks like it has an indention as well.
Surf riding is an expensive sport! But its the only way to ride!
Thanks again to Jim for towing me in once again...and unfortunately bringing out my competitive nature...damn you!

You keep breaking the number one rule of SURF riding,

NEVER EVER LET GO!

But I know, it feels like the right thing to do!

This weekend the surf looks great, your going to land a BF! I will have my white/back SJ with the new Xscream motor! I'm going to let you flip my orange ski, it knows how to flip & will treat you right!

Like he said.......NEVER LET GO!!!!

It may hurt landing upside down and still connected but it will hurt way worse if you bail and the ski lands on you. Had that happen twice and it's scary.

Damn Tanner, I guess I got off easy. (carnage wise). But I stayed with the ski. Still gotta ride one out though! Glad you are O.K.
P.S.: pancaking wasn't that bad at all for me. Plus if you hang on, you can right the ski pretty quick. Because I've yet to truly complete a backy, I only have advise on how to not make it!

Ive landed them before but that was in 07 at the daytona freeride...haven't done them since. I wish I had a tilt nozzle on my ski.

Heading to Orlando tomorrow to get it back up and running and then mess it up again this weekend...hahaha.

It deff helps my cause knowing I'm not the only one breaking stuff trying to get this done. The pile of blown out blaster hoods behind my shed is getting huge!

In my experience upside down landings don't usually hurt, and I have alot of backflopping experience, but ski landing on you is bad news like you said.

Tilt nozzle in the surf - now that is funny! You could do with a few more hp though.

Hey that trim lets us flip 2foots, But the Brap never hurts.

I was flippin my White SJ, 701 B pipe, no trim. Just gotta go big!!!! More work without Brap.

Tanner's going to flip this weekend, My Orange ski knows how to flip

You coming up this weekend?? Nice surf on the report

Thanks for the the parts Josh and Fred. It wasn't a cheap fix but it had to be done. That was a $200 weekend in carnage! I will be there this weekend. Just let me know which day will be best and I will be there. I think you said Sat is going to be the best? That offshore wind from the storm in the gulf should be good.

My last weekend at the spot cost $200 in paint work alone. Thank fully Tem hooked me up with the Hood Repair, Now I just need to do a little hull repair.

Lesson learned, never chase an out of control Ski!

Hahaha...true. That is why I'm starting to wear my kill switch again. I don't want to see my ski going full throttle towards the rocks! Plus it will cut down on the hydrolocks which I seem to be so good at.

Gotta get my crap fixed. Maybe we can all get towed in on one rope! Hope to be there Saturday.
Ski carnage is better than body carnage!
