I was thinking the same thing. I fill my 5 gallon jugs to 4 gallons.
i fill mine with avgas since it's lighter and then ask some kid to carry it for me.

So I've had a VP and one of the scribner ones now for a couple weeks and I like the scribner better for one reason. I currently keep the jugs in the back of my truck under my snugtop bed cover and the scribner jug just fits with the hose and the VP won't fit with the hose attached. Also the scribner holds exactly 5 gallons and the VP will hold up to 6 gallons but its just too big and has the handle on the corner which makes it harder to secure. So, I bought another scribner and it will be here this week so I'll have 2 identical size ones.

I got some SureCan 5 gallon fuel jugs and will not go back to old style. It pours from the bottom of the tank and doesn't spill. Easy to use on the back and can use it one handed to fill up your ski as the trigger is operated by your thumb. No having to flip the fuel jug up and down while filling the tank so super user friendly. They have been a sponsor of mine for two years but I would have tossed them the first season if I didn't like them. I get nothing from this post but even after I stop competing I will still use their product. They will also fit in the tool box on trailers and under truck bed covers so they are easy to pack in your rig as well without having to deal with the hose and cap in your way. Not sure on the prices, but they are definitely worth whatever they are asking.

They don’t work well for anything. I never spilled gas until they made spill resistant cans. Remember people were smart enough to operate a cab with a flexible hose and a vent? Then they came out with these non-flexible ones you can’t get the fuel out of without flipping it over and they don’t engage the safety on a car tank well without a funnel. Then they went further and added a lever to the pour spout so now not only can you not leave them uncovered because it has a few inches of exposed pour but if you flip them over to get the rest of the fuel out of the can the fuel drains out of the safety lever. I mean wtf. In some states its probably a union thing that some one pumps your gas but it is probably at least partially that they think people cant operate a pump without specialized training or some poop. I guess it’s a reasonable argument since morons we’re pumping gas into homer buckets during Irma. And god forbid you ask for 5 gallon of fuel and they give you $20 because their PhD in fuel dispensing operations didn’t cover premixed fuels. But meanwhile they allowed the use of single use cardboard gas cans for cars that run out of gas like the same people too stupid to operate a regular gas can aren’t so dumb as not to store gas in a cardboard box for an extended period of time.

Mine were pre spill resistant with the cap you unscrewed and then pulled out an accordian style spout with a separate breather. It was a small nozzle though and took a long time to use and one of my screw on caps split as well. I agree, they are horrible though.

The ones I loved were about 1" flex spout that was stored inside the tank and had a vent. They worked wonderful.

My all time favorite is still the Wedco 5 gallon.
I gave away 8 of them right before I moved to the US thinking I could just buy more when I got here. Mine were the older ones that still had the screw cap on the vent too.
You could drill out the vents to over double their original size and drain 5 gallons in a fraction of the time.
I liked the double handle design jugs as well back when they still had a vent. The vent caps were cheap but so were replacements.

These are what I went away from. Slow to pour, the spout can occasionally get pushed back into the jug a bit and start leaking, and the other day, the cap split while in the bed of my truck due to tank pressure. Granted, I've had the jugs for many years, but I'm glad I went with the square ones since they fill the skis so much faster.

So, with all these guys with 3d printers, how come no one has made a replacement spout for these stupid government/epa mandated pieces of poop? Remember the screw on cap where you unscrewed, removed the seal cap, and flipped the nozzle? I use real VP 5 gallong jugs with the in tube strainer screen. I also made custom slipover covers to prevent the uv from sucking my octane. Little velcro slits, so you can put it on with the spout.

To me the issue isn’t the spout, it’s the lack of a vent.
I actually like the black rigid spouts on mine, with the little tab to hook on the side of the filler.
They make replacement vents for the older version that can be installed in all the newer jugs, you just have to drill a hole and push them in. They are cheap and the little fold over tabs break often but they usually come in 5 or 10 packs so spares are usually on hand already.
Here's a 10 pack for under $10 on Amazon and the reviews are all positive with no reports of hard or brittle plastic.

I haven't tried the vp racing style jugs but the old blitz style always seemed to pour pretty quick for me. Yeah it is possible to push the nozzle back in, but it seems like all the nozzles that hang out of the can permanently get beat up, at least for me.
For anyone looking for the reversible nozzle that hides in the can until you take the cap of remove the seal and turn it around those are available on amazon and ebay.
