Custom/Hybrid Fiberglassing how to video?

Anyone ever make a how to video for fiberglassing? About to start rebuilding the tray of my SN and fiberglassing the holes where I shortened it and would love to see a video or even a little advice or things I may run into. First time ever working with fiberglass so don't know much so any and all tips and links to videos would be great!

Yes I know of the first two I have read tons of builds and looked all over the site but where to cut and what to mod is not what I am asking. Everyone posts stuff of where they cut and how they did it then they say I fiberglassed this and that. I'm looking for a video that actually shows someone doing a little fiberglassing. The third link you posted may help but still not really what I'm a looking for, thank you for your comment tho!

Sand, sand, clean surfaces, use equal parts resin to glass, I use a digital scale. Then just wet layup, glass goes down over surface and use a brush to dab in resin. You want to wet the glass but not soak it so much that lil resin lakes form in your low spots. Use some plastic wrap to squeeze out air bubbles in tough corners...remove plastic wrap before it cures.

It's not rocket surgery, practice glassing something first, wrap a coffee can or something.

Pretty much it. Only other thing is before you lay down the glass go over the area with some rubbing alcohol / nail polish remover. Buy the the gallon jug of it from home depot. Once you lay your first piece it will make since to you.

Yes, clean surface with acetone.
Use a squeegee or a roller to get the excess resin and air bubbles out.

If laying heavy cloths like biaxial, wet it out on a piece of cardboard first.

image.jpg I think I have it all sanded down as far as it can be, I am using biaxial for the most part and yes I have a fiberglass roller and squeegee. I didn't know about the rubbing alcohol but I will definitely do that and I will find something to practice on first. Thanks a lot for all the info! Here is where I'm at right now. Game plan is shortened 5inches off the back so that I can still use the second set of plate mounts, widening the tray, re shaped the tray walls and installing RRP adj footholds.image.jpgimage.jpg

If you do, buy a kit from carterB. That ones tried and tested, and will ride good..
If you haven't glassed much before, his kit would be a good idea.

The kits are nice if you have the money burning a hole in your pocket, but there are also a ton of people out there doing there own with great results.

He's doing rrp holds. That's a lot a money in the first place :p
But yeah I understand what you mean. But as a first time glasser starting from scratch wouldn't be easy.
Depends on how many hours you wanna add to your build..

I don't have money to burn and that kit looks awesome but no way I can swing that, only reason I have the footholds are because I got them compleat for $100. If it gets done I would have to do the work myself just do to know if it would be worth it.

Just stick with shortening for now :)

Just in case you haven't heard already - ONLY USE EPOXY RESIN FOR THE REPAIR OF A SN. Since you were asking about "fiberglassing" techniques, I think it's highly important to emphasize that you must use the right resin for the job. Plain old "fiberglass resin" aka polyester resin WILL NOT WORK on the Meton top deck nor the SMC bottom.
