Super Jet Filling Bond line. What will work?

I am in the final process of trying to finish my Squarenose, before memorial weekend. Footholds are in, motor is rebuilt. I need to do the bond line before reinforcing the sides with biaxal 1708. I am in a crunch. To do the bond line would Fiberglass marine Filler work, as well as Eopxy and cabosil? Or will there be a bonding issue with the upper half of the hull? My ski is not going to be a competition ski, just a weekend basher that has to be strong.
I have considered foam such as great stuff spray foam...them laying biaxal over it. Thoughts??

Thanks
Patrick

just layer fiber glass and resin over the bond line I did mine with 3 layers, then 2 more layers over the entire side of the hull. The resin will kind of puddle in the bond line when you tip the ski on its side. do one at a time and it will be good. My build thread has pics of mine on the first page.

Ive heard you could use diatomaceous earth instead of cabosil. Diatomaceous earth can be found at pool stores and probably home depot. Ive heard of people using foam that should be alright too you just need something to fill the void.

Thanks guys, yes I kind of figured spray foam would not work, as it will hold water I am assuming. Filling the bond line is simply to transition smoothly the both halfs, with the heavey biaxal cloth. Marine filler is quick drying, and is thick, meaning less will be needed to fill the line. I was just curious of anyone has used that. It is Polyester based, soo not sure about it sticking to the top half of the hull which is NOT fiberglass.

yes, epoxy & microballoons filler and sand it smooth, will work well or what i did is was mixed epoxy, cabosil and 1/2in chopped strain and filled the bowline and then glass layers over that. i only did one layer of 1708 biax on the inside of the hull and the gunwall on my chicks sj. SN.jpgI just finished mine. I went with west systerms, and cabosil. 8 pumps each. I am guessing, about 3 ounces total epoxy (not much really) it flowed well. I am going to let that set and sand smooth in a few days, then one layer of 1708 biax over the entire side, then finished. Fingers crossed I will have this finished and ready to ride by memorial...I still have to lay one layer of glass over the seams of footholds and turf.....time is ticking. LOL

Thanks guys,
Patrick

I like this Idea. I have started mine and plan to finish it at a later date. I may finish it with something more like this Idea with just mixing in a bit of glass.

I used the regular cloth, cut into long skinny strips & stuffed it into the void untill it was less of a sharp angle.
I'd also suggest to lay the full side's reinforcement layers at the same times as the void area vs sanding hardened void filler and then laying them.........

what you dont want is any kind of resin pooling any where, it provides little strength. you always want to try to absorb excess resin or add something to it. what i do is either add some chopped stran or make your own my just shredding a scrap cutoff and stuffing the pool with it.

Lay it all in one shot, it will be stronger. Mix up the cabosil mixture thick enough that it doesn't drip or puddle. Smooth it out with a 4 inch spreader. Lay your reinforcement cloth over the top of that.

I usually do One layer of 17 oz biax. This seems to be plenty, even out in big surf with big flops and 3/4 rolls
