Fine Costs

The Penguin

triple secret probation
Have yet to receive it but should be here shortly, I'm not quite riding yet in NJ(still cold).

What exactly isn't legal? They are too close together?

for TX?

probably not 3" tall. not solid (gray area with our rules). not far enough forward on the ski.

Wrap your fire extenguisher in turf and zip tie it, then get one of those huge plumbing zip ties and zip it to the left strap on your gas tank (Standing up).

I have one pre-wrapped that I can do that with if there's a dickhead cop around. Otherwise - I don't carry one.

It would be so nice if they made a legal smaller extinguisher for PWC's!

someone found a small extinguisher a few years ago - problem was it was very expensive.

My # are not even close to legal on two skis never been ticketed for that. They basically have more to talk to me about than reg #s
as far as fire ext goes Tom21 has the front foot holds works great for a tow rope also
in my other ski I used a 3inch pvc wrapeed in HT 3inch gem capped both ends strapped up as front foot hold.make it tight to the bond rails when you cut it

I don't know if its any different up in Canada but I got pulled over and they wanted my boating licence, registration, Fire ext, rope and a bailing bucket, Im pretty sure the cop was an id10t
If you have a bilge you don't need a bailing bucket I told him (is that true) regardless I didn't have any of it on me so they let me go. is it diffrent in the states?

there are ways to mount the extinguisher on the ski so that really should not be a problem. I sell a front toehold that will hold it and other stuff, or some guys strap it to the battery or over it. those numbers are too close together anyway so you would still have been in trouble had you mounted them up front. lol

Sorry Tom! I was at work sneaking on the computer and not even thinking about your frt hold... That would work perfect for this issue too! I just gave mine to a friend for his SJ because I didn't have room after 25mm padding, turf, and the ratchet for my hood straps to fit it correctly on my ski.. It is a great design though!!

For your numbers in WA St you have to have a space between the letters and numbers that is larger than a 1 or I.. a Dash space is ok.. And the Tab has to be to the Aft of the reg numbers.. With the Reg numbers on the front half of the boat..

To munki63.. Atleast in Washington, depending on your age, since they are phasing in the required Boaters Ed cards, you have to have it if you live here or ride more than 60 days in state waters per year, might be consecutive days too I can't remember. You have to have an extinguisher, whistle, Registration, and a Coast Gaurd approved vest. I have never been asked for a rope or a bailing bucket, why a bailing bucket? There is no room for one.. Even on my boat when I was checked over they never asked for one.

For anyone concerned with the fire extinguisher discharging...just get one of those ugly yellow fire extinguisher containers from a Yamaha Couch. They come on most of the bigger skis..they strap down to the rear seat and have a small handle on them. The lids screw on them...seems like that would hold stuff . Plus you could still zip tie that in place and put a whistle inside it with your registration. Just an idea.

You all have me scared that my extingusher is going to fry my engine now, lol. As for the whistle I cut off the black one and zip tie a orange one on it that you can see from outer space. I try to avoid them at all costs. It seems like you got to go a mile offshore to get some peace and quiet so you can rip it up and not get yelled at these days.

So here is what I came up with last night after some thinking... I never really saw anyone put a extinguisher here before (i don't think).

Nice, right by the flame arrestors.

I've had an extinguisher go off inside the bilge. That stuff is corrosive. I wouldn't want it in the motor.
At least wrap it in turf or something.

I have been riding stand ups for about 8 years and boating all my life in barnegat bay, NJ. Been pulled over once on my ski and was asked about someone else the officer never even asked for ID or my name. I had an expired reg, no fire ex., no whistel, and had just launched off a boat wake like 10 feet from behind the boat.......I think you will be ok man......but having just said that I just jixed us ...................

That PVC pipe idea is a good one I may try that out on my SXR.
