Finish on hull reinforcement

I'm a fiberglass rookie and did my first lay up this past weekend on the side of the hull. Sanded with 80 grit, peanut buttered the bond line with 404, then layed two layers of 1208 biax mat with minimal epoxy but made sure everything was wet. It's now dry and looks good but the surface is very rough and you can feel the weave. Is this acceptable? Does anyone put a barrier coat on the inside of the hull or add additional layers of epoxy while the cloth is still tacky in order to get a smooth finish? I'm guessing it's just a waste of weight and money to do that...

Also, I plan to overlap the side a bit with my next lay up, do I really need to sand that already rough surface?

Thanks for the help, I've read and learned a lot this past week.

You can knock the roughness down with a couple passes of sand paper. As for the overlapped part, within 24 hours should be good, overwise some sanding of the previous layup is recommended.
