Fire Extinguisher Set-up

So me and my buddy Justin are riding out in front of my house today, we head into shore to re-fuel and next thing i know i have a Cop asking for my license and registration. To make a long story short he gave me a bunch of warnings but wrote us both a ticket for no Fire Extinguisher.

So my question is, does anyone have pictures of their fire extinguisher set-ups in after market hulls?

Most places are pretty hard on fire extinguishers, spendy ticket too. I got nailed last year too. I had one but it didn't work, caught riding after hours.
This is kind of crude, but its been working. I use the reusable ziptie they sell at West Marine. I taped up the safety pin too so it doesn't fall out. If it goes off in the engine bay it could cook your engine. I like run the zip tie through the finger hoop on the fire extinguisher.

^ I like the idea, but doesn't it need to be a USCG approved 2lb extinguisher to be legal, or does it vary by state?

I was just kind of brain storming about this. It would be cool if RRP, Blowsion, etc... made a sleek enclosed bracket that attached to the bottom of the pole. You could have your pad on the hood absorb the impact and no huge risk of failure if something happened. Not sure it would work, but it would be cool if it did.
Mine has been good for a year and has moved much. I agree a more permanent install should be done. If a guy is on a pinch or just needs to go ride, it should work. I just used the electrical tape around the pin cause I'm paranoid about it going off. It happened to my buddy and no damage was done, but there is potential risk.
If your boat does start on fire let it go, you'll never get to it. The fire will float around the ski. Your buddy maybe able to get to his, but just be carefull. Not sure if floating and fire fighting is an easy task.

P.S. Happy 4th of July everyone and enjoy your ride today if you can make it out. Hella boat traffic on Tonka today for me!!

Tom21 sells a front toe hold with extinguisher holder. Pretty sure it fits superjet, sxr, etc, and would probably fit many other skis. I recall it comes one size width and you just cut to fit.

Sorry to jack-a bit.. but a brief rant on this topic is needed. Most of you know what I'm gonna say....
#1: I don't know the laws in all states.

In Florida class A vessels less than 16' in length are not required to carry an extinguisher. I'm not required to carry one in my 14' jon boat.
However, an extinguisher is required in ALL pwc's. Are there any over 16'?
They say it's because of the high HP, performance etc... when I say that, if my ski were to begin to burn, I'd simply push it away and watch, they say that the extinguisher is as much for helping others in trouble as it is for you.
The next obvious question is: So, when I'm in my 14' jon boat, I'm not required to help others?

When you register your watercraft with the state each year (in FL) you will receive a registration for a Class A boat.
The fight is truly not worth fighting because we will never win.
Even if the fight went all the way, and we won, they would simply create another registration class for pwc's. I'm sure that the new class would have regulations that would make your head spin.

I have no place for an extinguisher on my ski. When I did, the thing was useless after a few rides anyway. I keep 2 fresh-new extinguishers in the parts box that lives in the bed of my truck.
If they bust me...oh well.

On a lighter note: The most fun with extinguishers ever was at the freeride in Daytona...maybe '08 or '09 (can't remember)...but as each ski was inspected for the sticker required to ride, the very same extinguisher was passed discretely down the line. No less than 15 or 20 ski's got stickered using the same extinguisher. lol. Of coarse, I would never condone such behavior. lol.

Carrying an extinguisher on a stand up is pointless IMO. Still trying to figure out where to stow mine before my number comes up.

2012-03-30 22.37.50.jpg 2012-03-30 22.35.37.jpg I use a Kidde kitchen extinguisher. It's small enough to strap on top of a ETX-9 or 12 battery with a layer of turf between them. It is not USCG legal, but it will usually get you by w
