We got hassled the other day at the Local spot by the Coast Guard.
I was not the one targeted but I watched my friend get a ticket.
I don't feel like paying a fine so I am looking for a Fire extinguisher now.
I want to see what you guys are carrying.
If it's normal size, I don't want it.
Thing has to be small....

I was wondering this myself recently- but man is that a useless thing to have on a stand up. I'm not digging for it if something is on fire, were riding in/on a giant extinguisher. your buddy got hosed.

<<<< buddy was me. I agree it was rediculous. I wanted to ask their honest opinion of the law and it's usefulness on our 7ft~ skis. But either way, I had green tags. I'll see if there's a fee involved soon enough I'm sure.

It's lame and 99% of us will never even be in a situation to use one but it is the law.

I made a trip to TX last summer and I got kicked off Lake Travis early afternoon because I didn't have an extinguisher and whistle. I didn't do anything wrong to get stopped. The ranger didn't understand my CO registration sticker because it doesn't list a month just the current year. He pulled me over and decided to check on everything else while he was at it. I would have been fine with a ticket but a lost day out of state sucked.

Ski was an SXi so I lost the extinguisher tube when I did footholds. I had never been stopped before and I wasn't worried about it. After that I found a place to strap it down in the engine compartment. I wouldn't pull my hood in the middle of the lake and even on land it took a min to get it out. There is nothing in the law that says you have to be able to produce it a specificed time or that you are even required to put out a fire if one is present. You might ride 10 years without ever getting stopped but to me it's not worth losing another day on the lake.

Don't know about other states but CO required a USCG approved B-I extinguisher.

Thought I would bump this. I'm going legal this year and make some fake legal fire extinguishers for my skis. I'm so sick of F-ing bureaucrats in my business. I would not have a boat or sit down with out an extinguisher , but they are useless on our skis . If it catches on fire ..... flip it over .

I took my sxi I built this winter out just to test everything a few days ago, we werent out for ten minutes and had a few minor problems..went back to the launch and a park ranger/dnr guy was waiting for us...I didnt have current registration on my sxi yet but its registered (70 day deal..) I told him to check the HIN it would be in my name and such just didnt have the stickers yet since it was just a quick test, my RN had current reg with stickers in my name also...didnt have "rules of the water" stickers on either ski haha he gave me a warning for both but thankfully he didnt check to see if I had a fire extinguisher on my sxi cuz I dont yet haha but again my RN has one, if I have a fire on the water it would be easier to get the extinguisher out of the superjet than inside the engine compartment on my sxi...either way Im getting a fire extinguisher now, tickets suck! haha

I thought all skis came with a fire extinguisher compartment, is that a kawi specific thing? Gotten asked if I had one, my 650sx came with one (has it's own compartment accessible from the side of the ski, like the tool compartment, above the bilge). Also you need a whistle now apparently.

"HAS TO BE SMALL" Key words right there Benny!

l said piss on it and when l get a ticket,l'm still not carrying one! Thought about strapping one to the battery, but it would have to be real short.Just not a lot of places to have one on a freak.

Had a 650 too.you had to have a large azz wrench to get the cap off the side of the ski in order to get to the fire ext.Even putting grease on the threads every so often.

Most guys that are having a problem here have a a/m hull,so there was no thoughts in molding one in the first place.

Like the idea of a fake on Sport!!! Maybe l can get my local sign shop to make us a decal for the cover up!!!

Too bad you couldn't cut that regular size one down shorter, duct tape it together after rigging up a spring to push the pin/test button up...

This is the one I use. Got it from some autoparts website. Search my name I made a thread about it a couple years ago.

Its not USCG approved but I have been pulled over twice and they only look at pressure and if its BC. The only probem is it had a paper lable that I wrapped in clear tape but its starting to peel.

Anyone know where I could print a fire extinguisher label?
