Other Fire Extinguisher

I am not sure everyone understands the law. The reason you carry a fire extinguisher is to put out other peoples fire.

Funny you say a couple of seasons ago we had a guy put out a fire on a boat witha fountain. Well he may not have extinguished the fire but he tried real hard, and it was fun to watch.

Anyone know where I could print a fire extinguisher label?

I'm sure you could take it to a sign/decal shop and they can scan it and make one. The only problem I could see happening is that they wouldn't do it because of a lawsuit or what not?

I was at the beach on day with 4 other guys the local law comes over on his ski getsoff and says he wants to do a safty check on our skis. He goes down the line asking for extinguishers he gets to the third ski. my buddy pulls his hood and starts kicking water into the engine bay!!!!! he says I'm emerged in water and if the ski starts on fire the last thing I'm going to do is lift the hood off and allow air into it feeding the fire. We all were rolling which really pissed him off. Lol

I think doing a fountain would be more effective than a fire extinguisher

This is true but why then is there not law for cars!!!! It makes no sense, if someone's boats on fire ill help everyone off but there's no way in hell I'm boarding a boat to try to put out a fire. I just don't get it, I got my ski to ride not to be a firefighter!!!!!!!!

I do understand that . As far as rendering aid to another vessel I can't take on passengers and can't pop the hood in the middle of the lake..... I can drag people to shore that's about it. The CG regs are written to cover a broad spectrum of marine safty. Much of which deal with coastal and off shore situations. Off shore boating is unforgiving and deadly if things go wrong and you are un prepared. My screen aint sportfish nothin. Many years I spent 60 to 100 miles off shore and let me tell you there's nothing out there but blue water. You have a fire you better be able to put it out. We carried back ups for everything. Rarely on a stand up am I more than 100 yds off shore.... It's just not an issue . At the end of the day , I think Darwin should have the last say in most situations marine and other wise ..... I'm such a hard ass

I have had to use my ski's extinguisher before and was very thankful for it being there. The irony is that the ski was on the trailer in the parking lot at the local launch and I used it to put out a fire on a buddies ATV that had grass packed in around the exhaust.

I keep a 5lb extinguisher under the back sear of the truck that is far more logical.

I searched quite a bit last year and found a few different types of small compact extinguishers. The problem is, they are not USCG approved, nor are they big enough to qualify so you are likely to get a fine anyways.

That's what I found. I contract with a petro pipe line..... They have a few fire extinguisher reps . They came up with smaller options that would work great ,but nothing that was CG rated . So back to my first post .... I'll just make one.

That would be interesting to see - got any pictures?

I'm making a stainless bracket for mine to hang it from the ceiling of the hull in the engine bay. always nice to see drop in compatible components tho!

I have these in my truck and ski

Pulled from USCG site (http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/cg5214/fesys.asp#162.028):

The Coast Guard does not issue certificates of approval for portable fire extinguishers. Instead, an approved extinguisher are can be identified by the marine type label, such as “Marine Type, USCG approved, Type X. Size X, USCG approval number 162.028/XX.” The XX signifies the laboratory’s identification number for the particular extinguisher. USCG approved extinguishers are listed in the laboratory’s equipment directories and web sites.

If that extinguisher has that on it, I'm buying it. Halon extuinguishers are good, although not good for you.
