Slow no wake within 100 feet of shore.

I had three witnesses show up, two being my parents and a third was some guy I just met on the beach and asked for his contact information. They all stated I was no where near 100ft of shore when I was riding.

Reenacting the scenario for the judge, the Deputy stated he was over a 1/4 mile away(more like 1/2 mile) using binoculars to observe me. The judge looked on in disbelief, pulled his glasses down and asked the deputy how powerful his binoculars were, the Deputy had no idea. Score one for me.

He glanced at his book for the definition of slow no wake and read "maintaining control of your vessel at the slowest possible speed". I stated I had Stand up Jet Ski, slow no wake is like 5-10mph if you need to turn. Score another one for me.

He dismissed the ticket based on my eye witnesses being much closer and the ambiguity of slow no wake.

I got the same ticket last year after they followed us around the whole lake waiting for us to do something illegal. They even know us now, they asked where our 4th buddy was that day. This is why I don't want to push my luck on an am hull and get bigger questions raised.

We have been hassled enough over the years that we know we have to have them. I stick mine in a backpack and throw it on the beach once we get over to our spot. Once we are at our spot they will never know. They have been fine with the backpack thing...

Install a system like the restaurants use. Just have a little pull cord hooked up to a fake canister and a fake sprinkler!

Shh, I ran a empty Fire extinguisher in my RN for years! Most of the time they just want to see it visually, and dont ask for it to be pulled out (in my experience).

Knock on wood, I've been stopped a few times, but only for them to check my reg stickers. No inspection beyond that. Last year I got stopped out in the lake and the cops on the boat complimented us on our water awareness and trickery. Asked us to do some more tricks for them. Pretty cool guys really. Very lucky for us though...

I have heard the fire extinguisher is required so that you can help another boat if there is a fire. Not sure how true that is. Makes more sense to me though. There is no way im sticking around my ski to try and pull out my fire extinguisher if it catches fire. im swimming away as fast as possible.

Had to use a fire extinguisher on a ski one time. Glad we had it around. It would have been a mess if we didn't have the extinguisher. The ski sunk and while turning the ski over to get water out of the engine some fuel must have spilled somehow. When the plugs where pulled and couldn't get the engine to start someone checked for a spark by grounding the plug on a metal bit and the start button was pressed....blam-o. Had a nice Ski-B-Q going. Luckily someone had a working extinguisher and the fire was quickly put out and the ski started and ran great. The scary bit is there was about 4 gallons of fuel in the tank. This was back in early 2008.

At least have an extinguisher around to help someone out if you not on the water. In the water just flip the ski over and swim away.

Just a heads up. If you hold the stop button and the start button at the same time, the engine will crank with no spark. So no kablooie.

I can't figure out why everyone is stopping for the cops. We have a plan, 1 DNR boat and 6 skis, do the math. You don't have to be the fastest, just not the slowest.

That's the key....we live in a area so crowded with boats and massive yatchs with 30 drunk ppl on board that a few jetskis doing back flips are hardly looked at. The Dnr has told me a few times " don't care about you I want to land the big drug bust "

You don't even need ID numbers on our skis. They may....May give you a ticket at most if they truly feel like it. Big deal $45. We see cops maybe 1-2x all season. Oh how I love life on the Chesapeake lol.
