IceRocket- I'd definately get footholds before a prop. Why not? He needs to learn to ride the machine and get control of the boat before he needs a new prop...

You even told him not to add power until he learns the boat.... Don't confuse him by putting footholds in the same sentance as pipe and flywheel....

What good is a new prop if you arn't comfortable handling and jumping the machine? The benefits don't apply to you, and by the time your ready for the prop its probabaly been dinged already and you'll need to refinish.

I learned on a stock prop, but with holds. Now when I put a new prop on I may actually notice a difference, other than "i think its faster, but I can't ride the boat to notice enough"

Footholds really help with learning balance. You get a wider stance, are far back with your weight on the machine, and give leverage for your shins when turning. All great things for a beginner to use, even if they just put their toes in they get that couple more inches of width for stability.

A prop is not power, I meant motor mods. Adding a prop should be one of the first things you do, and what the heck does dinging your prop have to do with anything? Thats one of the dumbest things I have ever read. A prop is not going to throw him for a curve ball when he's trying to get used to the machine. Just because he hasn't rode a standup before doesn't mean he will ding a prop, which sometimes doesn't even do anything bad at all. If you cant learn to have good balance without footholds, you should stick to a couch, because its not that hard, and they do not make THAT big of a difference in learning balance. And if you jump waves and catch air, and your feet go all over the place, then theres something else wrong because you don't need footholds to jump.

If you are new to it and it's your first standup, I would wait, ride it stock and see if you are into standups for sure. And if you don't have 5grand to spend in the next 2 years then sell your stock 06' for top dollar and buy an 99' with everything on it for 3k or so. My buddy just picked up a 01' with strocker motor, hood, pole, mag pump, msd total loss, dual 46' full spectrums and more for 3500.00, the guy had another one to for 3,000.00 with pump, sold

i would only change the bars to the 0degree bars and if ride in rough water id throw on a intake grate ive bought intake grates for cheap pn ebay id buy a pro tec for like 10$ and then after you master the stocker throw in some footholds bpipe, prop, head, and msd enhancer but after that the skys the limit

You must immediately replace the prop, intake grate, bars and steering. The stock superjet has some crappy parts on it. :cool2:

After that, they are pretty rideable!

Figured i would chime in real quick in the foothold vs. prop ordeal. I am still very new at riding, my ski came with both of the mentioned parts. If i had to give away one of the two, it would definatly, with out a shawdow of a doubt, give the prop away. Granted I cant speak 100% for exactly how the prop helped performance, I do know i would give up a little bottom end before the thought ever crossed my mind to get rid of the foot holds. In other words, my first mod would be footholds, not a prop. trust me when I say that the footholds will help you learn things ALOT faster than a prop ever would. Just my .02

Well trust me when I say they dont. A prop isnt going to make that much of a difference in learning to ride, unless your first ski is a full blown mod motor or some crazy thing. If you rode a Sj with a stock prop before the knew one, you'd also realize where im coming from, cuz they are junk.
