O, so go a step leaner on the main jets? wouldnt hesitation and sputtering mean too rich?
Being to rich normally gives symptoms even when you just started riding. Thats what makes me think your lean. Also sputturing can be a sign of a lean condition.

Post a good picture of the plugs and we can take it from there.

Also get me a list of what you have done and what you want for it (if you really want to sell it) I have a buddy looking for a square in Evansvlle IN.

Depends on dome size. Sounds a little low for a rec head but probably not a problem. Could be the compression guage and did you hold the throttle open when you checked it? Also you probably need to do a plug chop and shut the engine off while running full throttle after its warmed up to get a good reading.

damn im learning alot tonight. nah i just hit the starter for a few secs and screwed it in hand tight. so it probably is a little higher than 162

and did i mention i was riding with no bilge pump, my switch was messing up so i cut it off. New one just got here today while i was riding. there's about 2-3 inches of water in the bottom of the engine compartment.

The water in the bottom is no big deal.... And what is normal about the plugs... black, tan, white??

But talking about a compression test I done one tonight I thought this new motor was at about 180 or so ... LOL yea right 211 front and 212 rear... and I done it 3 times to make sure. SO I guess this new motor will be drinking the fine stuff this year.... LOL

Anyhow back to your plugs......

That first picture looks pretty dry. How new are those plugs?

I would back your high speed set screw out 1/2 a turn just to see if your problem gets beter or worse. You can always put it back as long as you know where it was. Backing a set screw OUT is always the best to start with. Too rich just runs like crap too lean can cost you a motor.

Have you read the carb bible... have you done all the metering test like riding at 1/8 throtle for about a minute and hammering it to see what it does? then 1/4 then 3/8 then 1/2?

yea they are B8EVX. they look basically identical to B8ES. which is what im putting in now.

those definitely had several rides on them so its time to replace them.

plugs last a LONG time.

you cant get a reading off of a used plug though.
you have to run the engine in the range you are checking, idle, mid or WOT.

any other running of the engien ( such as idling back to the dock) will void the reading.

thats not a stock carb I dont think.

but yes, loostening the screw will richen it.

count and turn them into lightly seated, and tell us where they are currently set L and H screws. LIGHTLY seat them, dont crank them in with alot of pressure.

oh yeah.
cute dog, bad air guitar!
haha

yea they are buckshots.

and thats eva and jesse. they are both annoying. hehe.

the L screws were out about 1 turn
the H screws were out about 1 1/2 turn.

I see the problem...get rid of those race Buckshot carbs! By the way, Yamaha superjet motors vibrate way too much to run spigot mounted carbs ! Must be soild mount carbs!
