Took the 90 sn out on the mississippi saturday. The good news is that the bike doesn't leak at ALL. The bad news is that it doesn't run too well.
The only way to start it in the water is to prime 3-4 times, hold WOT, and then crank. It will then sputter to life. It won't idle. When it is running, it takes WOT to plane out, and maxes at about 25 mph (boat w/ gps running parallel). The low end bogs, the mid feels fine, and the high end bogs. It was extremely difficult to ride because of the lack of power. The plugs fouled (running too rich I beleive). I weigh 190lbs.
I recently replaced all of the fuel lines, the fuel filter, installed a primer kit, new plugs, pulled the gas tank and cleaned the inside, and cleaned all fuel connections.
It comp tests 144 front and 142 rear. I ran premium 50:1 with quicksilver 2-stroke. I figure the 21 y.o. carb just needs to be rebuilt, and with the kit costing 30 bucks I'd spend the time to get it done. The only thing I didn't replace that involves fuel is the tank pressure release line. I did notice that some pressure was built up in the tank after running. The extra pressure was minimal, but is it significant enough to mess with mixture or affect the carb? Thoughts...Suggestions...?
One last thing. After I get the 650 right and learn how to ride a stand up I'll swap in a 701 or a 760. Which would you recommend? All I want is a torque increase. I'm not looking for speed, just a quick turning, wave jumping machine. Max 40 mph. The goal is to approach the wave barely on plane, give WOT, and launch off of it.
Thanks much for the help, and reading this novel.
