First superjet-noob questions

image.jpg image.jpg Well I just bought my first superjet. It's a 650 hull with a 61x 701 motor in it. Has high comp. head (which I may take off and put stock one on), factory pipe, and 47mm carb. Ski also has aluminum handle pole, impeller/scoop grate/ride plate. Was wondering if it's bad to hold it wide open for so long or does it not matter? Also, sometimes when I press the start button nothing happens at all. Other times it starts right up. Any ideas? Thanks!

Don't change the head. High comp head is what you want. Don't hold WOT for long if so. What type of gas are you running? What is your compression? The starting up thing sounds like one of your cables for you battery is loose or there is a short somewhere in your wiring

My ski was doing the same thing when I tried to start it. My issue was that when I put my lanyard under the lanyard button (not sure what it's called lol) the internal part under that lanyard button was staying depressed and not popping up so the ski thought there was no lanyard in. Does that make sense? I would check that after checking the battery cables.

When you press the start button and do not hear anything, listen for a click form the eBox. this is a sign of a bad starter relay.
Could very well also be a bad start switch if you're getting nothing on the relay. You can plug the relay directly into the battery to see if it flips. If so its the button.

Buddy has an Fx1 that did the exact same thing, first (and cheapest) place I'd check.

Thanks for all the replies. First, I figured out that it is not a high compression head, I was told it was but really it is the stock head painted a different color. Also figured out the start problem. I took the cap off my e box and there's two red cables that hook into each other (not sure what it is called) and pulled those apart and it was very dirty on the inside. Cleaned them up and haven't had a problem since.
