First time build - FX-1

You can always grab a few halogen work lights to get your laminates up to curing temp too. Their cheap, like $10-15 for each small sized lamp. 2 or 3 should be enough. The US composite epoxy is pretty tolerable for cure temps as well. I've had it set and cure as low as mid 60s.

Ya I'm a 100% cotton t shirt guy. I'm not a fan of thin shirts or soft ones. I was always raised with 100% cotton so I guess that's where it comes from lol.

lol its still cotton, but I get where you're coming from. Go try on @Roseand 's tee that he got from me and maybe it'll make you a believer in the high quality stuff ;)

I have 5 high qualities tees sitting in my closet brand new that I got for free and I don't wear them because I don't like them. And plus I couldn't fit into his baby gap sized clothing

I didn't mention it yet but I ordered some RRP adjustables. I was nervous to glass in something that wasn't adjustable for my first holds in case I decided later on that I put them in the wrong place lol. I sold a 650sx for 400 more than I thought I would so that extra $$ bought me those :)

So i guess i should have asked this before i filled the bond line with filler, but do i need to wait until after the set time has expired before i lay my fiberglass down or is it good to go after the pot life time is up? UScomposites states:

  • Pot Life: Represents the maximum amount of time that the mixture can remain in your pot. Once applied to your working surface(usually in thin layers) this will greatly increase the time you have before the epoxy sets.
  • Set Time:This is the amount of time after the epoxy is applied in a thin film that it will arrive at a gel state, still wet, but no longer a liquid. To recoat without sanding between coats you must reapply after this point but before the drying time has completed.

I am assuming your filler is epoxy based... You can lay your glass immediately. The only reason to wait would be if you needed to sand the filler down. In which case you are waiting for the cure time (or close to it).

Well I only got one side done tonight. Man I suck at this lol. Luckily no one is really going to see what a terrible first fiberglass job this is. I was bummed that I couldn't get it to wrap around the inside of the hood lip.... Oh well. I'll do a strip of 12oz around that later.

I don't know if this 17oz biax is going to shape very well when I go to do the nose. I might just switch to 12oz up there. How strong is the nose on these skis? Can I get away with just one 12oz layer up there or should I do two? I'm still wanting I save weight where I can. I plan to do a couple layers under the pole mount though.

Yeahhh wrapping glass around the inside of the hood lip can be a pain in the ass. Since I was working in a warehouse for a few hours I was able to wait a couple hours then go back and push it down when it was tacky and it stuck good.
