First time out EVER on a AM hull

So, I bought this WDK rip last weekend and finally got to take it out today. HOLY CRAP! Mad respect to all of you.

It has been over a year since I have been on any stand up but I have always been able to jump on a SJ and ride out (probably just like every other person on the planet)... Dude, my first 10 minute ride felt more like trying to balance an indo board than riding a ski. Nose was up, ski was walking left and right, and I was seriously humbled by it. Lol. This thing is nothing like any stand up I have ever been on.

Second round was much better... I started to get used to the steering and throttle and having my feet in the holds. I am amazed at how sharp this thing turns and how stable it is when spinning around. I spent time just turning and cutting figure 8s, bunny hopping, and just riding trying to find where the ski likes to be on plane.

Third round I was feeling pretty confident and figured I would try to start throwing down some tricks like not falling when jumping a wake. Hahahaha. Tried a couple of 180s... tried... the first one was move of a nose stab and the second was better but was cause I was trying to spray my wife on the shore... ended up missing... and falling. Lol.

Lots of falling today. It was awesome.

I ran 5 gallons through it today and I am looking forward to running more through it next weekend.
 
Building a RIP as we speak... I hope I can handle it! Dasa 950, TNT, 155 skat mag... thanks for the feedback. Must be nice to still have warm enough water to ride though!!

Well to be fair there is ALOT of diffrence in FW AM hulls. I haven't ridden a RIP, But most rickets. freaks and Xscream hulls, a MAXX, BOB 3 and Revolver R.
The Revolver R is so short and wide its crazy (bit of the same with MAXX) Its actually hard for my to get back up on, when on deep water. A KDX or DVX is actually pretty close to superjet specs (at least the AM FW hull that is closet to superjet).
So some hulls will deff be easier to adapt to (fast) than others.
Anyhow congrats on joining the FW crowd :) you will enjoy

Congrats! I had a RIP for a while, I miss it so much. It rides a lot different than most AM hulls. Riding a RIP is like driving a drift car that cant really go straight and is always drifting lol. A lot of people hate it, but I loved it!
 
I could see the rip being difficult to reboard in deep water, if you don`t get a little forward momentum going it always trys to come over backwards. Ducky is right about it being like a drift car, mine tracks well and carves great when its not on plane. At just above planing speed it feels a little loose and spins/slides easy if you want it too. However, there is no way to ride it at WOT. I have never found the top end, it has always tossed me way before it could reach top speed. My superfreak badass will do 49mph with basically the same motor/pump combo and it feels like the rip would be faster, I know I have hit the water multiple times in the mid to high 40`s and it still had a lot more throttle left. I would say anything above 30 and its a fairly good risk that the rip will toss me instead of letting me slow down. Realistically though none of us bought a rip to make top speed runs anyway, but it does annoy me that it feels like it would be so fast and I can`t actually see how fast it will go.
 
This is kind of interesting, I still consider myself to be somewhat of a novice on my superjet, but my first ride on my Chan I thought it was if anything easier to ride, the position felt (and still feels) a little awkward but just getting on and getting up and riding around if anything is easier, it's super stable I find myself riding one hand once in a while so I can stand up and stretch out my back. I do find it a lot more natural to stand feet in front of the footholds than in the footholds especially if you're just riding around, but I think that's just a matter of getting used to it.

Totally suck at doing any kind of actual trick, but would never describe it as hard to ride.

Nothing to be nervous about. Keep your weight forward and stay in the throttle. The thing that affected me the most was going too slow. As soon as I gave it a little more throttle and cruised around a little faster, it became much easier to ride.
 
I rode a RIP for 15 minutes and was fine until I fell...and could not figure out how to get back on it. Flatwater skis are a mystery to me
I have been either pulling the ski under me and throwing one knee on and leaving the other leg off the back before cranking it back up, or let the ski drag me for a second and give it a little BRAAP and as it comes back down I slide into the tray back to my knees.

A RIP is definitely a bit squirrely at first but once you get the hang of it you can really throw it around. Most playful hull I've ever been on. Ive ridden a circus and a couple Dvxs and I always went back to my lower powered 701 or 820 hybrid RIP with one heck of a smile on my face.
It is a bit sketchy going around WOT, but it's possible(when it's perfectly flat, otherwise you're just gonna come unhooked ALL the time) . It's like all of a sudden it starts to tip over and you have to catch it before it throws you over lol.
Flips and spins are fun on this hull but it's fun to just screw around on.
Latest thing I've been doing is getting on plane, letting off the gas, and still while on plane, cranking the bars and nailing the gas and seeing how far around I can get it to spin around. It gives ya whiplash but it's fun lol.
The fun factor on this hull is a 10/10 and honestly I plan on sticking with mine until I break it so much that it's unrepairable but 3 years later it's still in great shape. And the footholds are AWESOME!

Is your compression high enough to be running 113 octane? The compression would have to be well over 200 psi per cylinder to run that gas.
If your compression is under 200 try running 91 octane free at 40 to 1. I think you would be shocked by the increase in power and love the cost savings

Compression is 220psi and I am mixing at 40:1 with Dominator.

When I bought the ski, I called Zack at PHP to ask what fuel I should run and he recommended running 103 or better.

I am going to try 110 next time I buy fuel. The 113 is a bit pricey and I can get the 110 from a pump so it ends up being like 7-8$ cheaper per gallon than the 113.
