First time super jet purchase

a SJ will be more fun, but an a/m will be even more fun then an SJ.

I know you said that prior to OP saying hes already tasted the aftermarket waters, but that's about as subjective as it gets.

I would just look for any year superjet with a 701 and a b-pipe that's propped right. Bonus points for dual carb motors, ada head, and other bolt on goodies. Even a clean 650 ski if the pickins are slim and you want something now. Superjets hold value well.

Test ride it and if it rips and the price is right take it home. You'll spend your season with a sh*t eating grin as you put the hours on it

Any ski is better than no ski. It all depends on what you want to do with it and how much you want to spend. I can have just as much fun riding a 550/X-2/650sx as I can on my aftermarket hulls.
I completely agree with the first sentence but to me the last sentence is a stretch. Sure I can have some fun on my 650 SN. Is it AS much fun as my 781BB RN? No. No way in hell.

We have a '94 SN SJ with a 650cc in it (it should have had a 701cc in it, but did not). We have a '95 FX1 with a single carb 701cc in it. My wife who is a former js440 Superstock bouy racer who is 70 lbs. lighter than me and who still thinks that the SN SJ has a 701 in it, recently said to me "The FX1 has more power doesn't it?"

So, yes you will notice a difference between a 650 SN and a 701 SN. We have never riden a SN SJ bottom hull with the two carb 701 in it (i.e., 1996-2007 round nose), but I have been told that you will also notice the difference in more power over the single carb 701. We have also never ridden a 2008+ bottom hull. But my understanding is that the SJ 1990-2007 bottom hull is more freestyle oriented, so I am happy we have the '94 SN SJ.

And if you are just looking for fun for the sake of fun, an FX-1 leads the pack in that category if we are talking stock out of the box anyhow.
Again, personal preference, I can't stand the 550 or the FX-1, never did and even prefer a 650 SX over them. I just don't like the narrow hull feel and handling and prefer the Superjet.

I guess. For me part of the fun was the challenge of improving your riding whenever you went out. The 550 and FX-1 were squirrely and challenging, which i liked a lot. The 650, 750, 800 Kawis you could just jump on and ride pretty well right from the get go. Plus I like low end torque which the Kawis, especially the 650s, had pretty much none of in comparison to a Yami.
