first try at a backflip

This was my first try at a backflip. As you can see I have a lot to work on. I was in Lake Michigan and there was lots of chop but some good waves to work with. Unfortunately my ski broke about 2 min later so that was my only try. I hope to get one nosed in by the end of the year.

Ditto on the bigger and better formed waves. From the looks of that you might as well be going for it on boat wake.

Dont take that guy seriously just keep trying them. I think that guy just did his first one a couple weeks ago anyways. Its all about confidence....you will eventually hit the right wave and nose one. If you can stick one on lake Michigan it will be a cake walk in the surf.

The important thing is that you're trying. Wait until we get some better waves in October/November, then you'll be nailing them.

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement!! I hope I can make it to wave wave this year. I would love to ride with some people that actually know what they r doing.

Lake Mi is a hard place to ride during the summer because we dont get surf breaks like you do in the ocean. We can get some big rollers but they r not that steep and if they r steep its in two ft of water. Last Sat. night a storm came through and gave us some big but VERY choppy surf on Sunday and i thought I would pull up my skirt and try some backflips. Not my only problem, but the conditions we're not the best. I can also tell by the video that i did not throw my head back like I should have. I will keep on them tell I nose one in!!

I was riding at my buddys cottage by Silver Lake. I usually ride lake mi out of holland.

Dude that looked pretty good. One thing I’ve noticed reading the X is that Backys in the surf and Backys in a lake on rollers is a completely different trick. In the surf its really just technique as you can BF a stock ski fairly easily, however in very small surf/flat water its a combination of both technique and your ski set up. Most flat water guys who BF have a combination or all of either adjustable trim, high HP motor, cut back hull and ultra light hulls. Keep at it, you’ll get it.

Like John 227 said bud, its all about technique. I had double overhead faces but was too scared to boost up those, but even the overhead sets I tried flipping off of in my last video I still didnt make it around much further than you did. So yes keep your head back really focus on using your legs and your arms to whip that ski around and wait for the most absolute steepest wave you can find and pin it. your doing a great job keep it up.

This was on the Columbia river out of Boardman Oregon, Winds @ 25 mph gusting to 31.

Great first tries, IMO. In the smaller, not as steep stuff, try "blipping" your throttle before you hit the wave. It will cause the nose to drop, then when you pin it and start up the face, you'll be helping the rotation to start.

condition are looking good for this sat on lake mi.. 3-5 footers.. I prob be at the muskegon city beach with the beach cart and with some others skis, I have 4 skis/ friends on my rig coming over.. 2hr drive ... not too bad...

i will be riding lake michigan up by silver lake again with one other person on sat and maybe on sunday. I will think about coming down to musk. to ride with you guys. I have to see how far of a drive it will be.
