Fixed Steer Superjet Opinions

I'm a long time stalker here and have been riding for 18+ years. I'm 45 years old and have lower back and hip issues, but I'm not ready to give up riding! I've owned just about every stock ski made and have ridden alot of aftermarket hulls as well. Lately I find myself riding my stock X2 in the surf over my superjets and waveblasters, simply because I can last longer and hurt less afterwards, but I miss the power and handling of a superjet! Hence my question, can I ride a fixed steer SJ with my hips square like on an X2 or do you have to ride surf stance? How easy or difficult is it to remount? ( remounting an X2 is no problem, but its a no go on a blaster in the surf for me). For anyone with a Tom21 hood, how does it treat your lower back? I'm 6'1" 210lbs. Thanks in advance for anyones input on this matter!

It's saves the back a ton!
I'm actually selling my fixed square hood setup if you are interested.

You have to side mount the ski. Getting up from the back will ruin your upper and lower back. It's like doing a chin up everytime you get back on like that.

You can ride with both feet in the footholds or surf stance no problem.

Thanks for the reply Bruceski! I've admired your SN fixed steer since you put it up for sale, but I'm a little too far away in Georgia! I'm looking at a fixed steer RN thats pretty close to me with a Tom21 hood. Can you side mount with just a stock 701? or does it need some mods for side mounting?

I have a 701 with b pipe and Ada head. I'm sure it can be side mounted with a stock motor. Just takes some practice.

I would learn to side mount in knee deep water first to get the hang of it.

If you can side mount an X2 you can side mount FSSJ's. The SJ's are a little more squirrely than an X2 plus the tray on a SJ , even with footholds is narrower than the foot trays of an X2. The tom21 hood's steering is a littler further back and higher than the 24/7 hoods which i dont prefer but for your back would probably feel better. Tigercraft also has a FS option. I should have mineat daytona this year and your more than wwelcome to try it if its there.

WB1994 I was hoping you would chime in! I don't side mount my X2's, I sink the rear and reach up and grab the bars and go! There is a bright blue fixed steer aquabot that now belongs to a guy in my riding group out of Jacksonville FL. The ergonomics are spot on, but the hull is too short for my taste in the surf even with a really long ride plate. (would be great in flat water however). Thanks for the info on the tom21 vs 24/7 hood, I did not know that, and thanks for the offer to take a test ride!

That Blue one with the aluminum hood was a kid I ride with's. He sold it to get a full carbon one. They are short. Start learning to sidemount. It makes riding a lot more fun.

You should also consider an OVP steering system with a short pole strapped down to a big pad and riser bars. Basically the same thibg, but much cheaper.

Ive never seen a pad tall enough to make a pole ski the same as a fs hood. There was that square nose at wavedaze with the aluminum pipe that went from tray to pole , it didnt last a full tank of gas.

An ovp and pole and pad are not alot cheaper than a hood and stem.

I've been doing more research and reading and read on a forum post that a FSSJ is more similar ride to a gen 1 X2 than a Gen 2 X2. Anyone who has ridden them all care to comment?

You have it backwards. No fixed steer on the market rides like a gen 1.

I have seen the Reaper but have not ridden one. I have ridden a Krash Predator several times and it rides nice, so I can only imagine how nice the Reaper would ride. However, It is out of my price range! I'm leaning toward pulling the trigger on a RN with Tom21 hood!

A round nose with tom 21 hood is a sweet ride. The krash reaper is another option in the future for upgrade. They both ride soo good. You won't regret either choice
