Waternut did his old SN into a flat deck and it was great. Not having gunwales takes abut getting used to not only riding but coming out of the water from a dead stop is a learning process but not bad at all. It's a quick weight reduction too. Do it.

The only "down side" I could find after riding one for a couple years is you loose some side to side leverage to balance your self. I was using the gunwall and my legs to pull it back up when your tipping a littke to far to one side. But you get used to it and learn to put more weight on the heal instead of the balls of your feet. Or have strong ankles! With proper foot strap location I see no downside. It really is a fun, different kind of ride. Plenty on here rode mine maybe they will chime in. But a quick test ride and really getting used to it are different things. If I had rode one for just a minute i prob wouldn't have done it. Having the straps and pole setup for you makes all the difference. I say bite the bullet and go for it. I bet You won't hate it and if you can glass it wouldn't be to much trouble to shape your own gunwalls back on later.

Thank you for all the good info! I think that was exactly what I needed to hear to continue the build Thnx! Did you take it all the way down to the bond line?

If you look under my started threads you see a flat deck build thread. Tapatalk makes posting a link a pain. I will check back tm and try to update the post, but yes I took it down to the top of the pump cavity and down to 1/4" on the sides from the bondline. I did it that way so I could reinforce some and hold foam for shape. You need to reinforce under the tray in front. To the bulkhead to keep from cracking the sides right behind it.

looks good. i reinforced both sides in the back and the bulkhead is the flat wall behind the engine. i used 1708 biax with epoxy and laid a piece in the corners and then down the sides.
put it on its side and do one at a time and it will come out nice

Got some more work done, exhaust in place and started foaming the tray with 2part and ran out of course... Is the wet system faring filler the best product to use to smooth out the glass for a finished look? Or some other kind of filler anybody recommends?
