Other Flatbed/ Moduar trailer?

Buying a flatbed trailer soon. It's a 10x5' with side rails like most utility trailers.
I sold my pickup in order to get better mpgs in my dad-mobile.

I would like to retain the flatbed utility, but be able to drop in bunks to tow skis. The majority of its function will be ski hauling, but if I want to buy landscaping supplies or anything else too big or dirty to put in my SUV I have a means of moving it.

My goal is to retain a flat load floor when the bunks are out.

Anyone have or seen something like this?

*Edit* I tried using the search function some but got lost in a sea of basic trailer threads.

The best thing to do is buy two metal brackets used for boat trailers. Bolt 2x4to the side. Screw on plastic slide material. Comes in wide pieces you will need to cut in half. Also able to use the roller to help load. All stuff except wood can be found at academy.

I measured the trailer this morning. Its a 5x10, which means its too narrow to hold a SJ (28"W) and a aftermarket hull.

Back to the drawing board. I'll continue to update this once I find a new trailer.

Thick PVC pipe would do the trick. Drilled two holes in the sides for each one and put a large through bolt and nut through a thick piece of wood. Then attach the board base to the trailer with some type of quick release setup to take the boards off when you aren't using the ski. Seems like a good idea. Keep us posted with progress, I'd like to see what you end up doing.

Why do you need bunks? Can you strap the skis down to the flat trailer?

my buddy uses his flatbed to haul dirtbikes. They used a bar with welded nuts on it to attach the metal chocks.

It's like 4 long bolts and the chocks come right out...less than 3 minutes for conversion

Bar stays on the trailer...i think it's strapped down somehow...may be welded from side to side though...can't remember

U could do the same with the bunk system I would think

don't have pics...sorry

Trailers are so oddly priced... a 6x12 flatbed is about 900ish on CL, but at that point the same sized enclosed trailer (my end game) can be had for $2200ish.

And all the two place PWC trailers are sold, of course. Grr... I guess i'm gonna pop for a 6x12 flatbed so I can use it for other chit.

I probably won't buy this, but it's a great guide to make my own.

Whole thing out of steel, I'd run a piece of 2x2 up the center so I can have hitch pin mount for the nose.

I have a 6 1/2x10 Big Tex that I have used since 2005. 2 Harleys or 2 Hayabusas or 5 dirt bikes. You could build 2 light weight frames with tabs for bolting to the floor and a PVC top bunk system. I have a hitch hauler that doubles as a 3rd bunk on my 2 ski trailer for a standup. I secure it with 2 bolts to the frame of the trailer for use or detach and slide in my receiver. Something lighter weight that would be easy to move on and off would work I would think. As for trailer pricing,ya get what ya pay for. Axle size, material thickness and quality of fabrication. Paid $1500 for my Big Tex in 2005 and I have seen my freinds lower priced trailers come and go.

Ok... Heres the scoop...
My AM hull will be 29" wide. Our SJ is 26.5".... The 5 foot wide utility trailer is..... 60 inches. (Yay math!)

This gives me a grand total of 5" of room to divide 3 times. Trailer rail to ski, ski to ski, and then ski to rail. If everything is equal, that's ~1.6" per space.

The used 5x10 trailer is $300, through a buddy deal.
A 6x10 flatbed (basically new) will cost me ~$850 to $1500 depending on how fancy I go.

What do y'all think?????

I used to do alot of work on wheel chair vans, they had this e-tracking. and I found a bracket you can put 2x4's on. It appears you could make some bunks with them, and also place the tracking wisely and have lots of adjustability.
Heres the site the link to the e track wood beam socket. easily removed and installed to keep your trailer open for many uses.

Heres the e tracking, its even galvanized.

I got a brand new flatbed from Harbor Freight for about $400. It was 4x8 inside the wheels and I built a 4x10 frame with 2x4's on end and plywood on top to make it flush with the fenders. You can screw down a some bunks towards the outside and it'll fit 2 skis or if you have help to load, put them the other way and fit 4. Then I built some stake sides for it and can lay a big tarp in it to haul a yard of dirt or whatever. I've got a couple 1,000 miles on it with about 800lbs on average and it's still kicking. All for about $500 total. I wouldn't put it in salt more than a couple times a year though.
